Kyra Braun had to watch as her squad went 1-4 during the fall tennis season.
She cracked the lineup this week, earning half of the Thunder’s four victories.
Braun, a 2016 Jay County High School graduate, opened her collegiate career with two individual wins for the Trine University women’s tennis team as it lost a pair of matches.
The Thunder (1-6), lost to Transylvania 7-2 onMonday, and fell to Berry College by the same score in a weather-shortened match on Tuesday.
Braun, a freshman, dropped the first set of her debut No. 6 singles match 6-1 on Monday to Transylvania’s Madison Miles. Braun then rallied to take the second set by the same score, before nabbing the tiebreak set 10-5 for her first college victory.
On the following day, Braun won the opening set 7-6 against Berry College’s Karleigh Dills before the match was halted because of inclement weather.

Saw his collegiate career come to an end as his University of St. Francis men’s basketball team fell 66-58 to Cornerstone in the second round of the NAIA Division II tournament.
Comer scored eight points as his fourth-seeded Cougars fell to No. 1 seed Cornerstone, which went on to finish as the national runner-up. He added three assists and three rebounds.
He averaged 10.2 points, 3.6rebounds and 3.2 assists this season while making 57 3-pointers.
Comer finished with 1,656 career points, seventh-most in USF history.
Elijah Kahlig

Had his junior season end as the University of Findlay men’s basketball team lost tosecond ranked Bellarmine in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship on Tuesday.
Kahlig was 3-for-12 from the field, made two of his nine 3-point attempts and both of his free throws to finish with 11 points in the 84-66 defeat. He also had three rebounds and one assist for the No. 25 Oilers (25-7).
He had three points, threerebounds and three assists in a 68-63 victory over Ferris State on Sunday in the regional semifinal after scoring two points, dishing seven assists, nabbing three rebounds and notching three steals in a 70-69 win over Southern Indiana on March 11 in the quarterfinal.
Kahlig averaged 10.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from 3-point range.
