FR teen is an Eagle Scout
Taking Note
Riley Pearson, 14, a freshman at Fort Recovery High School, was presented with the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Award at a ceremony at the University of Northwestern Ohio Event Center in Lima.
To become an Eagle Scout, Pearson had to earn 21 merit badges, show leadership and complete a community or church-related service project.
He created a time capsule which was buried during Fort Recovery’s225th anniversary celebration.
Pearson is a member of Boy Scout Troop 99 which is led by Jeff Hoying. He is the son of Scott and Amy Pearson.
Youth Art Month
Art work is being displayed at the Indiana Statehouse in honor of Youth Art Month, including pieces by area students.
The works of Corbin Delk, Miku Yonezawa, Evan Emerson, Addison Yoder and Alvin Wang,fourth grade students at South Adams, are on display through March 26.
Art teacher Heidi Lehman submitted the drawings of Indiana buildings and local landmarks for the exhibit.
Two are of the covered bridge in Ceylon, two of the Statehouse and one of the Clock Tower in Berne.
To perform
A free performance will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, at the Blackford County Arts Center. Margaret Hammond and Dan Hammond will perform.
Margaret began studying piano when she was four years old and is an accompanist for Taylor University. She has performed with the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jay County Civic Theatre, the Muncie Civic Theatre, the Marion Civic Theatre andtheatre at Jay County High School. She also teaches at the Blackford County Arts Center and Arts Place in Portland.
Dan learned to play harmonica from his uncle and taught himself to play the guitar and banjo.

Library news
Anyone interested in genealogy can do research at Jay County Public Library and the Jay County Historical Society Museum.
After research is completed, participants may enter to win a 23andMe DNA kit.
The library will also offer Intro to Genealogy at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, and Genealogy Research @ Your Library Part 1, at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 27.
Anyone attended the classes will earn a bonus entry for the kit.
The Writers Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 27. The topic will be “Writing Prompt Exercises.”
Hook and Needles Club will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, at Jay County Public Library.
Opening reception
An opening reception will behled from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Arts Place for the Regional Student Art Exhibit “Art is a Poem without Words.”
