ANSONIA, Ohio — The Indians hung with the Tigers for six innings.
But a trio of mishaps in the seventh inning put the game out of reach.
Fort Recovery High School’s softball team’s three errors led to five runs in an 8-2 loss to the Ansonia Tigers on Monday.
Fort Recovery (0-3) fell behind 3-0 after the fourth inning, but trimmed the deficit to 3-2 on a two-run single from senior Emily Hart. Rachel Thien hit a two-out double and Audra Metzger walked before Hart ripped an 0-2 pitch to center field.
In the top of the seventh, however, the host Tigers tallied five runs to put the Indians away.
Thien finished with two hits, while Hannah Knapke, Olivia Homan and Lydia Wenning each added singles.
Devin Post suffered the loss for the Indians. She scattered two hits through four innings, allowing three runs — one earned — while striking out four and walking six. Homan surrendered five unearned runs in three innings of relief.
Tribe falls to Celina
CELINA, Ohio — Like their varsity counterparts 22 miles away, one big inning sank the Indians.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team surrendered eight runs in the fourth inning Monday in a 13-3 loss to the Celina Bulldogs in six innings.
After trailing 3-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning, Fort Recovery (0-2) tied the game with three runs on RBIs from Cole Grisez, Keaton Metzger and Drew Muhlenkamp. But Celina responded with eight runs in the bottom of the frame to lead 11-3 and tacked on one more run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to complete the run-rule victory.
Joe Homan suffered the loss for the Indians. He tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking three.
Garrett Faller, Owen Schoen, Homan and Muhlenkamp each registered hits for the Indians.
