COLDWATER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team allowed four runs in the second inning Tuesday and wasn’t able to catch up in a 4-1 loss to the Coldwater Cavaliers.
Coldwater (14-5, 6-1 Midwest Athletic Conference), which is No. 10 in Division III, began the home half of the second inning with four consecutive hits, including a pair of doubles. The Cavs had two RBI doubles and a two-run single off FRHS starter Cade Wendel.
Fort Recovery (11-8, 4-3 MAC) cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth inning as Reese Rogers hit an RBI single to drive in Nick Thwaits. The Indians weren’t able to score again.
Rogers finished with two singles. Wendel had a double while Mason Will and Thwaits each had a single.
Wendel allowed four earned runs on eight hits. He struck out seven and walked two in six innings.
FR stumbles
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s softball team gave up 13 runs in two innings in a 15-1 loss in five innings to the Coldwater Cavaliers on Tuesday.
Coldwater (15-6, 4-1 MAC) scored six runs in the second inning and added seven more in the third for a quick 13-0 advantage. Fort Recovery (3-16, 1-5 MAC) scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the third inning before the Cavs tacked on two more insurance runs in the top of the fifth.
Rachel Thien and Bailee Tebbe had the only two hits for the Indians, who committed four errors that resulted in five unearned runs. Tebbe had an RBI, scoring Olivia Homan, who reached base on a walk.
Homan took the loss, allowing 18 hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
SA sweeps Indians
BERNE — The South Adams girls tennis team swept the Union City Indians on Tuesday, 5-0.
Haley Gerber (7-7) won her No. 1 singles match against Katie Rismiller, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, Virginia Lagos (6-6) knocked off Breann Ward 6-2, 6-1, and Hannah Dull (8-6) defeated Emalee Bocanegra in her No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-3.
Caralie Farlow and Julia Grabau teamed to beat Emily Cline and Maria Salinas 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Sydney Pierce and Breanna Potts won their No. 2 doubles match over Allie Conklin and Sydney Ralston 6-1, 6-1. Both doubles teams moved to 13-2.
South Adams’ junior varsity team also won, 4-0. Katrina Fosnaugh and Jade Farlow won their respective singles matches 8-1 and 8-0. At No 1 doubles, Cassie Yoder and Fatima Sandoval won 8-0, while Sarah Kloepper and Shayla Welch teamed for a No. 2 doubles victory. 6-0.
Star golfers 2nd
DECATUR — The South Adams boys golf team finished fourth Tuesday in a four-team match at Cross Creek Golf Club.
Bluffton finished first with 185, and South Adams was runner up with a score of 190. Southern Wells (205) was third and Adams Central (212) placed third.
David Muselman led the Starfires with 44. Jake Rife was three strokes behind as the No. 2 golfer, and J.D. Groh shot 49 for third. Eli Hamrick shot 50 to complete the team score for South Adams.
Nick Wurster also competed, and he shot 52.

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team scored all of its runs in the first two innings Tuesday, beating the Coldwater Cavaliers 4-1.
Josh Muhlenkamp registered an RBI as he was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first inning, and Riley Dilworth drove in a run on a ground out.
The next inning, Garrett Faller and Ian Homan both had RBI singles.
Joe Homan led the Indians with three hits, while Ian Homan and Faller had two hits apiece. Faller also got the win pitching, allowing five hits and one earned run with nine strikeouts.
