NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — The Tribe bats came alive early and exploded late.

A pair of pitchers combined to silence the Rangers.

The Fort Recovery High School baseball team blasted 13 hits and scored eight runs in the seventh inning in a 16-0 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers on Monday.

Fort Recovery (12-8, 5-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) scored a run in the top of the first inning before adding four in the third inning. The Indians extended the advantage to 8-0 in the fourth inning, and doubled the total with eight runs in the seventh.

New Knoxville (7-10, 0-8 MAC), meanwhile, managed only three hits off FRHS pitchers Reese Rogers and Ben Homan. Rogers gave up one hit, struck out seven and walked two in four innings. Homan surrendered two singles and three walks with two strikeouts.

Cashaus Metzger led the Indians with three hits. Cade Wendel and Kody Shinaberry had two hits, and Shinaberry also drove in three runs. Nick Thwaits and Homan also had two RBIs, while Homan and Wendel each hit doubles.

Fort Recovery opens postseason play at 5 p.m. Thursday at home against either Temple Christian or Perry.



Stars sweep Bruins

HARTFORD CITY — The South Adams girls tennis team moved to 11-2 on the year with a 5-0 victory over the host Blackford Bruins on Monday.

Virginia Lagos won her No. 1 singles match against Tori Baker, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Haley Gerber defeated Audrey Foster 6-0, 6-0, while Hannah Dull earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Dakota Mohler at No. 3 singles.

The SAHS No. 1 doubles team of Caralie Farlow and Julia Grabau won 6-1, 6-0 against Sara Gregory and Brianna Phillips. Sydney Pierce and Breanna Potts teamed to beat Sierria McPherson and Brittaney Dillon 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

South Adams’ junior varsity team also won, 7-0.

Katrina Fosnaugh, Jade Farlow, Cassie Yoder and Sarah Kloepper each won their respective singles matches.

 

Shayla Welch and Kirstien Herman teamed for two doubles victories as Michelle Donis and Kate Buckingham joined to win at No. 2 doubles.



Late surge lifts Tribe

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team scored eight runs in the sixth inning to beat the St. Marys Memorial Roughriders on Monday, 12-5.

St. Marys scored four runs in the top of the first inning, and the Indians slowly clawed back with two runs in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Roughriders took a 5-4 advantage in the top of the sixth before the Indians struck for eight runs in the home half of the inning.

Cole Grisez had a double and two singles to lead the Indians (5-7). Gabe Combs smacked a double and a single, with Garrett Faller hitting two singles and driving in a game-high four runs.

Faller also got the win on the bump. He gave up five runs — four earned — on eight hits while allowing one walk and striking out nine in seven innings.



Williams wins

Joe Geesaman and Izzy McAbee had three hits each in leading Williams Auto Parts to an 8-1 victory over All Circuit Electrical in Portland Junior League’s Rookie baseball division.

Geesaman had a triple, a double and four RBIs. McAbee had a double and drove in three runs, while Dawson Goldsworthy, Carter Hartman and Kevin Dues had two hits apiece.

Shawn Harrell had a double and a single to lead All Circuit. Logan Wendel and Jensen Avery each had a hit.



Duo leads Kiwanis

Cody Rowles and Bryce Wenk teamed to lead Portland Kiwanis to an 8-1 victory over Portland Optimist in PJL’s Willie Mays division.

Rowles had a double, two singles and two RBIs, and Wenk smacked three singles and two RBIs.

Gavin Young had two hits and Carter Barton had a pair of RBIs.

Landon Garringer tallied a double and a single with an RBI in the loss. AJ Myers also had a double for Optimist.
