PARKER CITY — The Starfires were within striking distance heading into the bottom of the third inning.
The Golden Bears put the game out of reach with two swings of the bat.
South Adams High School’s baseball team allowed a bases-loaded triple and a two-run home run in consecutive at bats Monday in a 13-3 loss to host Monroe Central in five innings.
Monroe Central led off the home half of the third inning with three consecutive singles before Seth Wilson blasted his triple. Logan Conklin hit a two-run home run to make it 9-3 Golden Bears, who scored two more times later in the inning.
The Golden Bears tacked on two more runs in the fourth and kept the Starfires (9-11) off the scoreboard to get the victory.
Gilbert Lynch suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on two hits with two walks and a pair of strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.
Grant Besser had a pair of singles for South Adams. Joe Stuber, Nic Stuber and Lynch all hit singles. Jayden Dull had two RBIs, and Corbin Blomeke drove in one RBI.
Stars top Squaws
BERNE — The South Adams girls tennis team moved to 12-4 on the season Monday with a 4-1 victory over the Bellmont Squaws.
The Starfires swept the singles matches, with Haley Gerber moving to 9-9 with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 victory over Brielle Adams. At No. 2 singles, Virginia Lagos (8-8) won the first set 7-6, lost the second 6-4 and battled to a 10-8 win in the third set to defeat Carrington Bultemeier. Hannah Dull (10-8) won her No. 3 singles match 7-6, 7-2 over Lilly Wolpert.
Sydney Pierce and Breanna Potts (17-2) teamed for a 6-4, 6-1 No. 2 doubles victory against Courtney Schultz and Megan McBarnes. At No. 1 singles, Caralie Farlow and Julie Grabau lost to Morgan Ellsworth and Lizah Okoniewski 3-6, 7-5, 7-6.
South Adams’ junior varsity team won 7-2.
SA golf falls
GENEVA — South Adams’ boys golf team lost to the Bluffton Tigers on Monday, 158-184, at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
David Muselman led the Starfires with a season-best 40. Jake Rife was second on the team with a 45. J.D. Groh shot 48 to place third on the team, and Nick Wurster completed the Starfires’ team score with 51.
Eli Hamrick also competed, and he shot 55.
PG-14 beats Optimist
Ryne Goldsworthy had three doubles and finished with four hits Monday as PG-14 defeated Optimist in Portland Junior League’s Willie Mays division.
Landon Blowers had three singles as PG-14 racked up 17 hits. Maddox Huffman had a double and a single, with Tony Wood and Conner Specht having two hits apiece. Ricardo Nava, Rhysin Blowers, Layne Reidt and Tucker Snipes also had singles.
Landon Garringer had a pair of hits, including a double and a single, to lead Optimist. Griffin Byrum, Aj Myers, Austin Schoenlein and Keegan Cavanaugh had one single apiece.
Williams wins
Joe Geesaman and Dawson Goldworthy were each 3-for-3 in leading Williams Auto Parts to a 9-6 victory over Ponderosa Steakhouse on Monday in PJL’s Rookie baseball division.
Geesaman had two doubles and a triple with five RBIs. He also scored three times. Goldsworthy had three hits and scored three runs, while Izzy McAbee had a double and two runs.
Gaven Byrum and Nick Snow each hit home runs in the loss for Ponderosa. Porter Clamme chipped in two singles.
Loy’s tops Boolman’s
Loy’s Realty topped Boolman’s Auto Sales on Monday, 17-9, in Sandy Koufax division of Portland Junior League.
Austin Curtis had four hits for Loy’s with Mickey Waters and Cam Hoover were both 3-for-3. Zach Twigg, Sam Dunlavy, Sebastian Jones all had a pair of singles, as Tarron Bentz, Juan Pablo Wiggins and Jesse Basham all added hits.
Trenton Webster had three hits in the loss for Boolman’s. Keegan Hartzel and Claeb Grigsby had a pair of singles. Jayden Hartzel, Cameron Langenkamp, Adrek Pogue, Kenny Carducci, Neo Ferrell and Gavin McCrosson.
