Zane Shreve picked the final meet of his junior year to have his best performance.
Shreve, a 2014 Jay County High School graduate, set a career best in the decathlon for the Miami University men’s track team in the Mid-American Conference Championships May 11 through Saturday.
Shreve totaled 5,874 points, beating his previous high score by four points.
His best finish came in the 1,500-meter run, as he won the event in 4 minutes., 41.04 seconds. He tied for fifth in discus (104 feet, 6 inches) and was sixth in high jump (5 feet, 8.75 inches).
The junior had a time of 16.1 seconds to finish seventh in 110 hurdles. He placed eighth in five events, including 400 dash (52.2 seconds), pole vault (10 feet, 10 inches), long jump (19 feet, 4.75 inches), shot put (33 feet, 2 inches) and javelin (132 feet, 11 inches).
In the 100 dash, Shreve finished ninth in 11.58 seconds.
The RedHawks scored 72 points for fifth place. Akron won the team title with 166.5 points.

Scored a pair of runs for the Huntington University baseball team in the NAIA Tournament opening round in Montgomery, Alabama.
He had a run Monday in a 12-6 victory over St. Thomas (Ala.). He then plated another run against Truett McConnell (Ga.) on Wednesday in an 11-6 win in the consolation final.
The third-seeded Foresters (35-13) lost to top-seeded Faulkner 8-4 in the tournament final, marking an end to their season.
Selvey finished the season with one hit in two at bats. He scored 14 times and drove in one run.
Megan Wellman
Jay County – 2016
Competed for the novice Indiana University women’s rowing team Sunday in the Big Ten Championship in Indianapolis.
Wellman was the eighth seat on the novice eight-member crew with Ruby Mioduski, Megan Berry, Elisabeth Luken, Marilyn Keller, Elizabeth Meinzer, Shelby Megnin and Sydney Shuert.
They were fifth in 6 minutes, 51.59 seconds.
