Fort Recovery sophomore books his 2nd straight trip to state
TROY, Ohio — Robby LeFevre is making a trip to Columbus a yearly ordeal.
LeFevre, a Fort Recovery High School sophomore, led a contingent of five Tribe boys track team members to finish in the top four in the Division III Track and Field regional at Troy High School, earning a berth in the state finals next weekend at Ohio State University.
LeFevre punched his ticket to the state finals by finishing third in the 200-meter dash. He ran to a time of 22.77 seconds, improving on his No. 5 seed of 22.96 seconds.
The top four places in each event advance to the state finals at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University. Preliminaries are Friday and the finals are Saturday.
He was also sixth in the 100 dash at 11.32 seconds, missing out on his second consecutive state appearance in the event.
LeFevre, who tied for eighth in the state as a freshman, joined classmate Brayden Schoen as well as freshmen Riley Pearson and Jared Timmerman to place fourth in the 4x100 relay with a tie of 43.9 seconds.
The quartet was seeded sixth with its preliminary time of 44.96 seconds from Wednesday, and beat Miami East by less than a half second to earn the final qualifying spot.
Travis Sutter, a senior, finished fourth in the 1,600 run in 4 minutes, 29.53 seconds, to reach state for the first time.
Sophomore Chloe Will had her season come to an end as she was 11th in the 3,200 run in 12:18.1.
Fort Recovery’s boys totaled 19 points to finish 12th out of 46 scoring teams. Fort Loramie won the team championship with 74 points.
Twin Valley South scored 48 points, edging both Purcell Marian and Covington, which tied for third at 45 points.
