The Patriots ended the regular season in the same fashion they’ve played most of the year.
They put another notch in the win column.
Jay County High School’s boys golf team closed its regular season Tuesday with a 168-217 victory over Daleville at Portland Golf Club.
Collin Haines, a junior, led the Patriots (13-3) by shooting a 39. Playing in the final dual match of his career, senior Nick Hayden was one stroke behind Haines to place second on the team.
Fellow seniors Jay Houck and Kyler Hudson closed out Jay County’s team total by shooting 44 and 45 respectively.
Matt Franks shot a career-best 46, but did not factor into the overall team score.
Jay County begins postseason play in the sectional tournament Monday at Hickory Hills Golf Club in Farmland. Tee time is 9:50 a.m.
Therapeutics wins
Jay County Therapeutics defeated First Bank of Berne 10-4 on Tuesday in Portland Junior League’s Minor softball division.
Laci McGinnis had two singles and a pair of RBIs to lead Jay County Therapeutics. Dakota Chowning, Savannah Lugar, Mallory Winner and Reba Wendel each had singles. Tessa Miller also hit a double.
Raelynn Stone hit a two-run single for First Bank of Berne, which also got singles from Jamie Davis and Ava Daniels.
Williams beats Barnett’s
Williams Auto Parts earned an 8-4 victory on Tuesday over Barnett’s Auto Parts in PJL Rookie baseball action.
Joe Geesaman and Izzy McAbee were both 3-for-3 and scored twice for Williams Auto Parts. McAbee totaled two RBIs while Geesaman had one RBI. Carter Hartman and Dawson Goldsworthy each had two hits and scored twice. Hayden Ison drove in a pair of runs.
Boston Barnett was 3-for-3 with a run for Barnett’s. Gavin Thomas was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs, and Kasen Ferguson had one hit and scored once.
Display Craft hangs on
In a high-scoring affair, Display Craft hung on for a 21-19 victory on Tuesday against Homestead Bedding in Rookie softball action of PJL.
Makenna Avery and Emily Young were both 4-for-4 in the win for Display Craft.
Taven Bentley and Natalie May were both 3-for-4, while Brittlyn Maxwell collected three hits.
Ella Champ and Ayla Jackson each went 4-for-5 in the loss for Homestead. Brooklynn Bright and Harlow Hough were both 3-for-5.
Local tops Loy’s
Local 1620 picked up a 10-3 victory over Loy’s Realty in Sandy Koufax division of Portland Junior League on Tuesday.
Gavin Myers and Bailey Cox were both 2-for-2 with a walk in helping Local 1620 to the victory. Ryan Herring hit a home run, while Darius Esparza added a single and walked twice.
Zach Twigg ripped two doubles in the Loy’s loss. Austin Curtis, Mickey Waters and Sam Dunlavy all had doubles, while Jay Goodrich chipped in a single.
Crossroads wins
Crossroads Federal Financial Credit Union held Fisher Meats to just one hit in a 9-4 victory on Tuesday in PJL’s Minor softball division.
Allison Hawbaker had two hits and scored twice for Crossroads. Katelyn Brown drove in four runs and scored once on one hit. Madison Reier, Isabella Denton and Bralee VanSkyock each had hits. Reier drove in a pair of runs while Denton and VanSkyock each had an RBI.
Stats were not provided for Fisher.
