Fall construction tops $4 million

Building permits for more than $4 million in new construction were issued in September and October by the Jay/Portland Building and Planning Office.

September permits were topped by a $1,618,870 warehouse addition being built at 1000 N. Morton St., Portland, by Carrera Manufacturing Inc., parent company of W&M Manufacturing.

October’s biggest project involved two swine confined feeding buildings and a storage building totaling $1 million being built by Orr Swine Farm at 4023 S. 600 West.

Interim CEO

Jenny Hamilton has been named interim president/chief executive officer of LifeStream Services.

She has been with LifeStream since 1999. She received her bachelor’s degree is sociology from Ball State University and her master’s in business administration from Anderson University. She has been vice president of home and community based services since 2013.

LifeStream is a non-profit agency serving 23,500 seniors in 12 counties, including Jay County.



Record revenues

Raymond James Financial Inc. has reported record net revenues of $1.69 billion and net income of $193.5 million for the fiscal fourth quarter that ended Sept. 30.

The financial services company, which has an office in Portland, reported quarterly net income was up 13 percent over the prior year’s fourth quarter.

For the fiscal year, net revenues increased 18 percent to $6.37 billion while net income was up 20 percent to $636.2 million.



Same day

CVS will start offering free, same-day deliveries of prescriptions from its stores in Manhattan, The Associated Press reported this week.

CVS Health runs more than 9,700 retail locations, including stores in Portland and Dunkirk. The company started a curbside pick-up service a couple of years ago, and it already offers deliveries from about 1,600 locations.

The company says its free, same-day service in Manhattan will be done within hours. It will hire couriers to deliver prescriptions and other products in secure, tamper-proof packaging.



New CFO

Tysons Foods Inc., parent company of Tyson Mexican Original of Portland, this week announced that Stewart F. Glendinning has been appointed chief financial officer, effective Feb. 10, 2018. 

Dennis Leatherby, who has served Tyson Foods as chief financial officer since 2008, will remain in that capacity until that date. To ensure a smooth transition, Glendinning will join the company on Dec. 11, and Leatherby will stay with the company until April 2018.

Glendinning joins Tyson Foods from Molson Coors Brewing Company, where he served as president and chief executive officer, International.



Joins Democrat

MacKenzie DeGroot, a graduate of Indiana University, has joined the newsroom staff of The Decatur Daily Democrat. She is a native of Fort Wayne.
