MONROE — The Patriots didn’t lose an event on Monday.
Jay County High School’s girls swim team was first in all 12 events in a 126-44 victory over the host Adams Central Jets.
Ashlyn Dow, Alex Bader and Eliza Bader each won two races apiece. Dow was first in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke, Alex Bader won the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle, and Eliza Bader beat the field in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke events.
Elizabeth McDowell had a win in the 200 freestyle, Erica Hathaway placed first in the 100 butterfly and Mackenzie Knisely was uncontested in diving.
C team loses opener
MUNCIE — The Jay County boys basketball C team couldn’t hold on to a lead after three quarters Monday in a 43-34 loss to the host Delta Eagles.
Jay County (0-1) overcame an 8-5 deficit after the first quarter to lead 19-15 at halftime. Heading into the fourth period the Patriots were out front 28-27, but weren’t able to hang on as the Eagles outscored them 16-6 in the final seven minutes.
Sheldon Upp had nine points to lead Jay County, which also got eight points from Brian Williams and five each from Peyton Nichols and Gaven Lambert.
Brinnin Wasson chipped in four points, Conner Tout totaled three points and Lewis Crump had one.
Chief 7th wins
Renna Schwieterman provided most of the scoring Monday as the East Jay Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team blasted Union City, 29-8.
The EJMS eighth graders fell 42-16.
Schwieterman totaled 22 points for the seventh graders. Lydia Keihn chipped in three points while Olivia Waters and Laci McGinnis had two points each.
Madison Dirksen’s nine points were a team-high for the eighth graders. Abby Elzey had five points as Andrea Jutte and Rachel Muhlenkamp both had one point.
Eagles drop two
HARTFORD CITY — The West Jay Middle School boys basketball teams both came out on the losing end against the Blackford Bruins on Monday.
The eighth graders fell 43-29, while the seventh grade team lost 31-20.
Quinn Faulkner led the WJMS eighth grade team with nine points, and Nick Street was second on the team with nine points. Trenton Alexander and Kess McBride had five and four points respectively.
Peyton Bennett, Tavin Wasson and Spencer Caldwell each had five points for the seventh grade Eagles, who also got three points from Skyler Bee and two from Landon Lowe.
Stars sweep Raiders
PONETO — The seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams from South Adams picked up conference wins Monday over Southern Wells.
The seventh grade team (3-0, 2-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) won 33-24, while the eighth graders (3-0, 2-0 ACAC) picked up a 43-35 win.
Matt Steiner scored 11 points to pace the SAMS seventh graders, and Josh Amstutz was second on the team with eight points.
Kyle Minger’s six points were third, while Brady Beall and Gavin Myers had four points each.
Aidan Wanner and Trey Schoch both scored 13 points to lead the SAMS eighth graders. Kaleb Stevens scored 11 points to join them in double figures.
