Tyson Mexican Original of Portland is hosting a job fair Tuesday.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Work One, 107 N. Meridian St., Portland.

The company has openings for operators and maintenance employees.

Also, Tyson Foods, parent company of Tyson Mexican Original, has acquired Original Philly Holdings, Inc.

Original Philly Holdings, based in Philadelphia, produces sandwich steak and cheesesteak products. It operates two plants in Philadelphia and employs about 250 people.

Recycling

Jay County Solid Waste Management District is offering free Christmas light strand recycling through Jan. 15.

County residents who have light strands that are broken or no longer needed can drop them off at the SWMD office, 5948 W. Indiana 67 (the corner of Indiana 67 and county road 400 South).

A marked barrel has been placed on the porch to collect the lights.



Retiring

One of Gannett’s top executives has announced his upcoming retirement.

Gannett is a newspaper conglomerate that owns USA TODAY and 109 newspapers and media properties, including The (Muncie) Star Press.

John Zidich, president of domestic publishing and publisher of USA TODAY, will retire on April 3. He was named to the position in 2015 and oversees domestic publishing for the company’s media properties and USA TODAY.

Zidich has worked for Gannett for 40 years.



Equality

Two pharmacies with local storefronts have been recognized for their commitment to equality.

CVS and Walgreens both scored 100 percent on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index, a national report on policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality. The nationwide survey is administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The companies are two of 609 businesses that received the recognition; almost 1,000 businesses were evaluated.

It was Walgreens’ 12th year and CVS’ fourth consecutive year receiving a perfect score.



Joint venture

Allegheny Technologies Incorporated will enter into a joint venture agreement with Tsingshan Group, the world’s largest stainless steel producer.

ATI is the parent company of Portland Forge.

The joint venture will manufacture and distribute 60-inch stainless steel sheets in North America. Tsingshan will supply stainless steel slabs, which ATI will roll into coils and then convert into stainless steel sheets.

A previously idle ATI plant in Midland, Pennsylvania, will restart and be responsible for converting the coils into sheets. About 100 jobs will be added in the area.



Launching site

Walmart and Lord & Taylor are launching a new website.

Lord & Taylor is the oldest department store in the U.S. It will occupy an exclusive section of Walmart’s website, where customers can shop the company’s premium fashion lines.

The website will launch in spring 2018.
