COLUMBUS — First he was district offensive player of the year.
Sunday he gained the honor statewide.
Will Homan, a Fort Recovery High School senior, was named Division VI offensive player of the year Sunday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association, an honor that replaces the Associated Press All-Ohio teams. The AP no longer coordinates postseason honors for high school sports.
Homan’s classmate Andrew Stocker was also named first team all-state.
It was another record year for Homan, who set season and career rushing records while a junior. This season, he amassed 2,400 rushing yards to break his mark from last year by more than 500 yards. Homan had 266 carries for an average of nine yards per rush, and scored 22 touchdowns as he led the Indians to a 6-5 (5-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) record and a playoff berth for the fourth straight year.
Homan was also MAC offensive player of the year and Northwest District Athletic Board offensive player of the year.
As a defensive lineman, Stocker had 75 tackles while posting team highs in tackles for loss (12) and sacks (5.5). He also had one forced fumble and a fumble recovery, which also earned him NWDAB first-team honors.
