Golden Gala to be held at Arts Place

Arts Place in Portland will celebrate its 50 anniversary with an Arts Place is Golden Gala on Saturday, Oct. 14.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a meal, followed by a presentation honoring Arts Place’s contributions to the community for the past 50 years.
Guest speakers will include Dan Rottenberg, one of the four original founders of Arts Place, current board members Jack Ronald and Carol Trimmer and long-time friend of Arts Place, Dr. Bonnie Maiten. A video tribute, created by AricHarvig , will also be shown.
Musical performances will be given by Peter Vogler, Margaret Hammond, Eric Rogers, Zec Landers, Joey Bailey, Sawa Yamaguchi and a specially organized choir for the event.
Tickets for the event are $37 and are available by emailing [email protected] or by calling (260) 726-4809. The deadline to make reservations is Friday.
Circle to meet
The Portland Foundation’s Women’s Giving Circle will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, at Jay County Public Library.
Grants for 2017 will be awarded to two local organizations with projects that benefit health and welfare opportunities for children and youth in Jay County. There will also be a presentation from Safe Families for Children.

At Fort Library
Check out the activities coming up at Fort Recovery Public Library.
Chair yoga will be held from 2:30 to 3:10 p.m. each Wednesday through Nov. 15. The introductory class will include simple seated and standing poses.
Music time for toddlers and preschoolers will be held at 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Story time for babies through preschool age children will be held at 10:30 a.m. each Friday and 6:15 p.m. each Tuesday.

FAFSA help
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2018-2019 semester is now open and Ivy Tech Community College will host a statewide Express Enrollment Day to provide help with filing the FAFSA.
The FAFSA is required for students to be considered for federal and state grants, scholarships and student loans.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, to assist with enrollment and filing. For the nearest location, visit IvyTech.edu/eestatewide.
To further assist with filing the FAFSA, Indiana’s 29th annual College Goal Sunday will be held on Nov. 5. For more information, see CollegeGoalSunday.org.
