From shopping to learning about preventative care, to eating to acquiring candy, Jay County Chamber of Commerce has a series of events scheduled for this month.
The chamber has announced that it will host its Trick-or-Treat Night from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 in downtown Portland. The event is open to all Jay County businesses; participation is free for Jay County Chamber of Commerce members and $20 for nonmembers.
Businesses that are not located in downtown will have the opportunity to set up in the Community Resource Center parking lot, 118 S. Meridian St.
Dr. Eric Betts, managing physician at MeridianMD – West Jay Clinic, will present a program on preventative care at the chamber’s networking breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The event will be at West Jay Community Center, 125 Hoover St., Dunkirk.

“Shop Jay County 1st” day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 25 at Community Resource Center and on WPGW radio. Local companies and organizations can purchase 30-second commercials that will be read live throughout the day.
Taste of Jay County is slated for 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Jay County Event Center, 555 S. Bridge St., Portland. The event will feature food and drink items from a variety of vendors in and around Jay County.

Jim Buckingham, Bank of Geneva’s vice president of business development, has retired.
Buckingham began working for Bank of Geneva in 1977 as a teller and was elected to the board of directors in 1987. In 1992, he was promoted to assistant vice president loan officer and Berne Branch manager.
He was promoted to vice president of business development in 2001.
Appointed
Lutheran Hospital has hired a new CEO, who will start Nov. 6.
Paula Autry has been appointed the CEO of the Fort Wayne hospital. She has 30 years of experience working in healthcare, most recently as the CEO of Detroit Medical Center’s Sinai-Grace Hospital, according to a Lutheran press release.
Autry graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine in 1984.
She graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1986 with master’s degrees in business administration and healthcare administration.
Autry, who was named as one of the Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare in 2010, has previously worked at hospitals in Alabama, Tennessee,Virginia and Ohio. She has also worked as a professor and administrator at schools in Ohio and Georgia.
A Lutheran Air helicopter providing transport to Lutheran Hospital is currently stationed at Portland Municipal Airport.

Red Gold will donate one meal for each canned tomato product sold during October.
The company, which has a facility in Geneva, has a goal of donating 2 million meals to Feeding America this month as part of its Crush Hunger initiative, according to a company press release.
This is Red Gold’s second Crush Hunger campaign. In 2016, the company donated more than 1.7 million meals.
“We can’t stand by when we know millions of people in our own country are struggling with hunger, so we’re pledging our support to Feeding America and encourage our consumers to do the same,” said Colt Reichart, owner of Red Gold, in a prepared statement.
Relaunched
Wal-Mart has relaunched its store brand of baby items, which will include almost 120 new products.
The company announced that its new bedding collection and premium diaper lines will be availablein in stores and online this month. Other Parent’s Choice items have been rolled out throughout the year and will continue through January 2018, ultimately resulting in more than 275 products available.
Other products include new baby food,toiletries and feeding items.
