FORT RECOVERY — The Indians welcomed another top-ranked team in the state.
They weren’t able to get the upset again.
The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team, which is ranked fifth in Division IV, fell to 4-3 in Midwest Athletic Conference play with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-27, 25-16 loss Thursday to the Division III No. 1 Coldwater Cavaliers at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
The loss snapped a six-match winning streak for the Indians (16-3).
Carley Stone and Cassy Martin each had a dozen kills to lead the Tribe, which also got a 10-kill effort from Paige Jutte. Martin’s six blocks were tops on the team, and Brooke Gaerke was close behind with five blocks. Paige Fortkamp and Jutte each had three blocks.
Kiah Wendel tallied 31 digs to help the defense, and Hannah Knapke chipped in with 17 digs.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team moved to 18-1 (6-1 MAC) with a 25-11, 25-15 win. Brooke Kahlig, Kierra Wendel, Chloe Showalter and Harlie Dues had two kills apiece. Kahlig contributed 10 digs and Rachel Acheson had nine assists.
Patriots down Driver
DUNKIRK — The Jay County middle school football teams hosted Winchester Driver at West Jay on Thursday and both earned lopsided victories.
The eighth grade Patriots (7-1) won 41-8, and the seventh grade squad (7-1) won 44-8.
Quinn Faulkner had three rushing touchdowns for the eighth grade Patriots. He scored from 7, 27 and 50 yards respectively. Blayne Daniels had a 25-yard touchdown run, and also returned an interception 25 yards for a score.
Caleb Hale contributed a 45-yard TD run.
Kadin Ridenour had 100 rushing yards and three touchdowns for the Jay County seventh graders. Mason Ludy totaled 80 yards on the ground with two TDs, and Zach Nuckols also had a rushing score.
Chiefs top Panthers
MUNCIE — East Jay Middle School’s six grade volleyball team outlasted the Southside Panthers on Thursday, 25-17, 13-25, 15-6.
Bralee VanSkyock led the Chiefs (6-7) with three kills. Brenna Haines and Riah Champ had two kills each as Sophie Saxman and Kylie Davidson both had one kill. Saxman had a team-best five aces and nine service points. Champ chipped in four aces, while Maggie Dillon and Haines both tallied three aces.
