The Fall 2017 Speaker Series continues at John Jay Center for Learning.

Emperor’s Ghost Army will be the topic from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mr. William Robertson, a retired senior scientist of Westinghouse Corporation, will be the facilitator for a 60-minute DVD.

Robertson will talk about a life-size terracotta army that was built to serve China’s first emporer Qin Shi Huang Di in the afterlife.

The army is concealed in an underground mausoleum in central China.

Arts Month

Portland Mayor Randy Geesaman signed a proclamation on Friday declaring October as National Arts and Humanities Month in Portland.

The proclamation recognizes the annual celebration and the 50th anniversary of the founding of Arts Place in Portland.

According to a press release, Geesaman stated that he believes arts and culture are an integral part of a healthy community and he encouraged every citizen to participate in the arts in some way this month.


Arts Place will hold its Arts Place is Golden Gala on Saturday highlighting how it has changed and impacted the community the past 50 years and its plans for the future.

Art exhibits are on display this month at the Portland Center, Blackford County Arts Center and the Auglaize/Mercer Center.

Wes Wenning, Fort Recovery, was named to the dean’s list at Ashland University in Ohio.

Wenning is an intervention specialist major.
