ANSONIA, Ohio — Outside of the Midwest Athletic Conference, the Tribe has been unbeatable.
On Monday, it extended the winning streak against non-conference opponents.
The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team had a commanding sweep of the Ansonia Tigers on Monday, 25-10, 25-8, 25-8.
The Indians, who are ranked sixth in Division IV, moved to 17-3, including a perfect 13-0 mark against non-MAC foes.
Carley Stone had 10 kills to lead the Indians, who also got nine and seven kills respectively from Cassy Martin and Paige Jutte. Stone chipped in five aces and three digs while Martin totaled six aces and four blocks.
Brooke Gaerke and Paige Fortkamp tallied three kills apiece, and Madi Rammel finished with 24 assists.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 25-14, 25-10.
Harlie Dues led the team with five kills, as Olivia Patch and Chloe Showalter had four kills each. Natalie Homan’s two blocks was a team best, and Brooke Kahlig totaled seven digs.
Pair reach milestones
BERNE — Two South Adams volleyball players reached career milestones on Monday in a 25-12, 25-22, 25-6 win over Union City.
Senior Madi Wurster was second on the team with nine kills, surpassing the 1,000 career kills mark. Wurster also had six digs and a block.
Julia Grabau, another senior, recorded 28 assists, which included her 2,000th career assist. She also notched a pair of aces.
Addie Wanner led the Starfires (22-9) with 11 kills and a pair of blocks. Shaelynn Bowman was third on the team with five kills, while also adding a team best six blocks. Hannah Dull notched four aces and four digs.
JC blanks Winchester
Jay County’s junior varsity football team shut out the Winchester Golden Falcons on Monday, 38-0.
Bailey Cox and Rylee Huftel each had a rushing touchdown for the Patriots (5-3). Cox also had three two-point conversions, and Landon Grimes also ran in a conversion.
Grimes completed five of his 12 pass attempts for 122 yards and a touchdown, a 17-yard score to Chandler Bush.
Austin Schlosser led the defense with 11 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Sam Lavy, Drake Mason and Tristin Huftel each recovered fumbles.
