MINSTER, Ohio — It’s been a decade since the last time the Indians finished in the top half of the conference.
They’re one win away from ending that streak.
The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team swept the Minster Wildcats on Tuesday, 25-16, 25-19, 25-14.
The win keeps the Division IV No 6 Indians (18-3, 5-3 Midwest Athletic Conference) at fifth in the MAC standings with a matchup against New Knoxville (10-8, 3-5 MAC) on Thursday.
Carley Stone and Paige Jutte led the Indians with 12 and nine kills respectively. Stone, a senior, also had 11 digs and four blocks. Cassy Martin was third on the team with four kills.
Madi Rammel totaled 35 assists, Kiah Wendel recorded 24 digs and Hannah Knapke recorded 13 digs. Martin led the team with six blocks.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 25-19, 25-16. Val Muhlenkamp led the team with five kills, as Kierra Wendel and Chloe Showalter had four kills each. Brooke Kahlig had nine digs, Hope Wendel tallied nine digs and Rachel Acheson totaled five aces.
SA 8th wins ACAC
The South Adams Middle School football team claimed back-to-back Allen County Athletic Conference championships with a 27-20 victory Tuesday over Jay County middle school Patriots at East Jay Middle School.
South Adams finished 6-1 (5-0 ACAC) on the year, while Jay County was 8-2 (4-2).
AJ Dull had three touchdowns in leading South Adams.
He reached the end zone from 4, 8 and 18 yards respectively. Uriel Hernandez also had a 16-yard TD run for the Starfires.
Quinn Faulkner had three total touchdowns for Jay County. The West Jay eighth grader had a pair of TD runs, and caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Darius Esparza.
Star 7th falls
WOODBURN — South Adams’ seventh grade football team fell to the host Woodlan Warriors on Tuesday, 34-7.
Maverick Summersett scored the lone touchdown for the Starfires on a 65-yard kick return. He also kicked the point after try, accounting for all seven SAMS points.
Summersett also led the defense with 11 total tackles. Gavin Myers recorded eight tackles, including one tackle for loss.
