Bluffton man injured in fall from tree stand

A Bluffton man was seriously injured Saturday after falling from a tree stand while hunting near Pennville.
Michael G. Lee, 48, suffered a broken vertebra in his lower back, a press release from Indiana Department of Natural Resources said.
At 11:30 a.m., police and first responders were called to the scene of the accident in a woods just outside of Pennville. Lee, 48, was found lying on the ground complaining of back pain.
DNR officers said Lee had fallen about 30 feet from a tree stand after his straps snapped on his tree stand. They reported that “the stand was old and the straps were moldy and in poor condition.”
Lee was not wearing a safety harness.
Lee was taken by Lutheran Air medical helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Deer struck
A Dunkirk man hit a deer with his vehicle early Saturday morning.
Christopher Bennett, 43, was traveling east on county road 400 South near the intersection with county road 700 West when a deer ran out in front of his vehicle. He was unable to avoid hitting it with his 2011 Chevrolet Silverado.
Damage in the 4:25 a.m. accident was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.
Backed into
A Portland woman backed into a parked car Saturday in the parking at Jay County Antique Mall.
Monnica K. Szybka, 39, told police she was on her phone and began backing up her 2003 Ford 150. It struck a 2014 Chevy Malibu registered to Dennis Kelly, Fort Recovery.
Damage in the 1:22 p.m. accident was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.
Raccoon hit
A Muncie man hit a raccoon with his vehicle Friday morning.
Stephan C. Howick, 52, was traveling northeast on Indiana 67 when a raccoon ran out in front of his vehicle. Howick could not avoid hitting the animal with his 2006 Volvo S60.
Damage from 8:30 a.m. accident was $1,000 to $2,500.
Deer hit
A Ridgeville man hit a deer with his vehicle Saturday evening.
Skylar D. Young, 23, was westbound on county road 650 South when a deer jumped into his path of travel. He could not avoid hitting the animal with the front passenger side of his 2000 Buick LES.
Damage from the 8:30 p.m. accident was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.
