Inspirational author to visit Jay library
Taking Note
Author visits, clubs and children’s activities are on the calendar for November at Jay County Public Library.
Janet Amundson, an author from Farmland, will visit the library to discuss her latest inspirational book “Whatever Lord.”
She will speak at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Copies of her book will be available for sale.
An author and local illustrator will also visit JCPL at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Judy Bruns from Ohio, the author of “Thousand Dollar Baseball” and the book’s illustrator Kathy Salyer Ayers, art teacher at Jay County High School, will speak.
Books will be available for purchase and signing.
Clubs to meet in November include the Cookbook Club at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13. The theme will be “Candy, Make it and Take it.” Come and learn simple ways to make homemade chocolates and more and creative ways to give gifts of homemade treats.
Jay CPL Book Club will discuss the book “The Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 20.
Hook & Needles Club will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Come and finish Christmas gifts or learn a new technique.
Writer’s Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27. The theme will be “The Creation of our Anthology.”
The library is partnering with Jay County 4-H in November with two programs for friends to share and learn something new.
Learning Together: Free Sewing Classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 6, 7, 8 and 10. Groups of two will learn to make a pillow in two different nights. Materials will be donated by library and 4-H supporters.
Learning Together: Gift Wrapping Workshop will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30. Shirley Dollar will teach tips and skills to wrap presents like a pro. Bring two personal gifts to wrap.

Crafting - Creating - Connecting will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. Adults and teens can create Post-it note/business card holders, gift tags and more.
Those with fines at JCPL can pay with food in November as part of Food for Fines and help a local food pantry. For each non-perishable food item donated from Nov. 6 to 18, a $2 voucher will be given to use toward overdue fines. Ten items can be donated for vouchers. The food will then be given to the Helping Hand Food Pantry in time for Thanksgiving.
A Thanksgiving break movie double header will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 22. “Alvin and the Chipmunks” will play from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and “Turkey Hollow” will play from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Programs for children include Mother Goose & Me at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 10 and 17; Story & Fun Time at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, 13, 20 and 27 and Tuesday, Nov. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Lego Challenge will be 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, 9 and 16.
Veterans program
Fort Recovery local schools will host a Veteran’s Day program on Friday, Nov. 10 in the high school commons.
Breakfast will be at 9 a.m., the high school choir and band will perform and there will be student speeches and a video.
Veterans wanting to attend may call Cheryl Wenning at (419) 375-4111 by Nov. 3.
Night hike
A Marsh After Dark event will be held Saturday at Limberlost Marsh Nature Preserve.
Limberlost State Historic Site staff and volunteers will host the event from 7 to 9 p.m.
Visitors are asked to meet at the preserve parking lot located at 8323 N. 250 West, 1/2 mile north of Indiana 18 and 3 1/2 miles west of Bryant.
Bring a flashlight for the night hike. There will then be ‘mystery boxes’ to discover, a nature presentation and a campfire for the Firelight Theater Variety Show where a story, song, dance or poem can be shared. The evening will conclude with hot chocolate and s’mores.
