FORT RECOVERY — The Tribe opened conference play on Thursday.
The winning streak is still intact.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team swept the St. John’s Blue Jays 25-11, 25-16, 25-20 in the Midwest Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Carley Stone and Cassy Martin led the Indians (4-0, 1-0 MAC) offensively with 10 kills apiece, and Paige Jutte was next with nine kills.
Hannah Knapke recorded 11 digs. Brooke Gaerke, Martin and Stone had two blocks each. Kelsey Jutte and Madi Rammel contributed 17 and 14 assists respectively.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won 25-18, 25-11.
Val Muhlenkamp and Chloe Showalter had six and five kills respectively.
Showalter also had five aces, Brooke Kahlig totaled 10 digs and Rachel Acheson tallied 13 assists.
Tribe falls to Panthers
CELINA — Grant Knapke was two shots away from earning match medalist honors Thursday as the Fort Recovery boys golf team lost to the Parkway Panthers 189-204 at Celina Lynx.
Knapke shot 45 to lead the Indians. He was two strokes behind Parkway’s Mason Baxter, who earned match medalist with 43.
Harrison Kaup shot 48 to finish second on the team for the Indians. Derek Lochtefeld was third on the team with a 55, one stroke ahead of Dylan Ranly.
Blayne Tobe (64) and Carson Rammel (70) also competed but did not factor into the team score.
FR sweeps
UNION CITY — Fort Recovery Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams combined to sweep host Westside on Thursday.
The FRMS eighth graders won 25-19, 24-25, 15-9, while the Tribe seventh graders won 25-6, 25-23.
Marissa Gaerke and Melissa Laux had eight kills apiece for the FRMS eighth graders, which also got six kills from Whitley Rammel. Madelyn Knapke and Kim Hart notched 19 and 15 kills respectively, and Aubrey Knapke totaled 10 digs.
Brookelyn Jutte paced the FRMS seventh graders with 10 kills, and Allysen Fullenkamp was second with five kills. Fullenkamp also had 10 assists, and Amy Stammen chipped in nine helpers. Abby Knapke racked up 15 aces.
