Bauer to join South Bend paper

Caleb Bauer, who has worked as The Commercial Review’s city reporter since August 2016, will be leaving the newspaper.

The 2016 Indiana University graduate has accepted a job as the economic development reporter at the South Bend Tribune.

His last day at The Commercial Review will be Sept. 29. At the CR, Bauer covered Portland, Dunkirk and Redkey municipal government, crime, public safety, the local economy and wrote a weekly opinion column “The Rest is History.”



Reopening

The All American Homes plant in Adams County is reopening, The Decatur Daily Democrat reported this week.

Details are sketchy, but there will be a job fair at the Decatur plant Friday, Sept. 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.



Named

Yum! Brands has been named to the 2017 Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index for the first time. 

Yum! Brands is the parent company of Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. 

Dow Jones tracks the sustainability of businesses, assessing and ranking about 3,500 publicly traded companies, according to a press release. 

“We are honored by this recognition which reflects our commitment to being a good corporate citizen focused on building sustainable brands that people trust and champion,” Marc Kesselman, general counsel, corporate secretary and chief government affairs officer for Yum! Brands, said in a prepared statement. “While we’re proud of our accomplishments, we are continuously working to incorporate sustainability in our growth plans, focusing our efforts on the areas our consumers and stakeholders care about most.”



Acquire 

CVS Pharmacy announced Wednesday that it is acquiring six ProMedica pharmacies in Ohio. 

CVS will take over the operations of one pharmacy in Oregon, Ohio, which will be converted to a CVS pharmacy in November. The five remaining pharmacies, located in Sylvania and Toledo, Ohio, will be closed. Patient files will be transferred to nearby CVS Pharmacy locations in October. 



Retiring

American Honda’s Automobile Sales Division will undergo a leadership transition later this year. 

Honda of America is a customer of FCC (Indiana).

Jeff Conrad will retire Dec.1 as senior vice president of the Automobile Sales Division and general manager of Honda Auto Sales, according to a company press release. Conrad has worked for the company for the last 35 years. 

Henio Arcangeli, Jr., will take over both roles upon Conrad’s retirement. Arcangeli most recently worked for Yanmar North American and holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Kettering University, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business. 



Restructure 

Wal-Mart is restructuring its business divisions and its field staff, according to an article in Supermarket News. 

 Wal-Mart will reduce its divisions in the U.S. from six to four. The number of regions will decrease to 36, from 44. 

“As retail and the customer are changing, we’re putting people who are equipped to run great stores and understand, embrace and execute change at an unprecedented rate in the right roles and in the right location,” spokesman Kory Lundberg said in a prepared statement. “Our last field restructure was several years ago and our business has changed over that time. The structure we are putting in place will help improve communication and execution, streamline decision-making and help us accelerate our pace of change.” 



Breaks ground 

Ferguson officials broke ground last week for a new pipe yard operation at Ohio 29 and Harris Road in Mercer County.

Ferguson is the largest distributor of commercial and residential plumbing supplies in the U.S., and already has a distribution center in Celina, Ohio. The plumbing supplier is investing $15 million in the project, according to an article in The Daily Standard (Celina). 

The new building will be a pipe distribution and fabrication facility, and operations are slated to begin in March. It will supply pipes to 110 Ferguson branches in five states, creating 36 full-time jobs. 



Agreement 

Reid Health Physician Associates will join the CareSource Marketplace plan network next year. 

Wayne County customers can enroll in the CareSource nonprofit health care plan in 2018. According to a press release, the county was at risk of having no marketplace options next year. 

Under the agreement between Reid Health and CareSource, outpatient care, lab services, emergency and urgent care, radiology services and orthopedics services will be covered. It does not extend to inpatient hospital coverage or other ancillary hospital services.
