BERNE — The Starfires used their home course to their advantage.

The South Adams High School girls cross country team had three finish in the top 10 on Saturday as it won the Starfire Invitational.

South Adams totaled 34 points for a commanding victory. Southern Wells (121) was second and Heritage (130) was third.

Wabash won the boys race with 92 points, edging Monroe Central by two points. Heritage was third with 103 points. South Adams totaled 139 points for sixth.

SAHS sophomore Kallee Patch led a strong Starfire squad by winning the race in 20 minutes, 25.38 seconds. Eliza Harruff crossed in 21:08.41 for fourth, and Olivia Von Gunten had a time of 21:15.74 in finishing sixth. Megan Miller was two spots out of the top 10 in 21:58.84, and Hadi Hawbaker crossed 15th in 22:23.52.

Wyatt Miller paced the South Adams boys by finishing in 17:42.55 for 11th, three spots ahead of Victor Vasquez (17:50.22). Luke Gerber placed 35th in 19:14.49, Trey Lehman was 39th in 19:25.53 and Clancy McIntire finished 43rd in 19:34.61.

Also competing for the SAHS girls were Calyssa Lehman (22nd – 22:53.86), Isabel Von Gunten (27th – 23:35.42) and Acacia Anderson (49th – 25:12.46). For the boys were Kam Yoder (44nd – 19:40.57), Dario Banuelos (60th – 21:00.76), Aidan Von Gunten (69th – 21:42.17) and Korbin Dunnuck (87th – 24:03.4).

Middle school

South Adams cross country teams swept the team titles.

The SAMS girls scored 31 points. Adams Central (40) was second and Northfield (108) was third.

The Starfire boys scored 48 points to win its race. Wabash (86) was second and Adams Central (92) placed third.

McKenzie Sturwold was second overall. Nia Litwiller was two spots behind her, and Mirra Mata finished ninth. Jocelyn Willis placed 11th to complete the Starfires’ team score.

Owen Wanner and Race Anderson led the SAMS boys by finishing second and fourth respectively. Brady Fox was seventh, Tyler Goforth placed 16th and Isaac Gorrell was 19th.

Also running for the SAMS girls were Mia Singleton (13th), Ella Neuenschwander (21st), Elizabeth Gerber (34th), Hailey Wendel (68th) and Clancy Hawbaker (70th). Oscar Vasquez (45th) also ran for the SAMS boys.
