VERSAILLES, Ohio — A little magic helped the Indians upset the top-ranked team last week.
They weren’t able to catch lightning in a bottle for the second time in three matches.
The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team fell to .500 in Midwest Athletic Conference play Tuesday with a 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-21 loss to the Versailles Tigers, who finished 11th in the most recent Division III coaches poll.
Carley Stone led the Division IV No. 4 Indians, who upset then-No. 1 New Bremen on Thursday, with 11 kills, and Paige Jutte was second with 10 kills. Stone’s 15 digs were second on the team to Kiah Wendel’s 23. Cassy Martin chipped in eight kills and a team-high five blocks. Madi Rammel tallied 31 assists for the Indians (10-2, 2-2 MAC).
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team won 25-18, 25-14.
Chloe Showalter paced the Tribe with five kills. Val Muhlenkamp was second with four kills as Kierra Wendel, Rachel Acheson and Olivia Patch contributed three kills each. Acheson recorded nine assists, and Brooke Kahlig totaled nine digs.
’Riders blank Patriots
ST. MARYS, Ohio — The Patriots crossed the state line for the first time in program history.
They returned having not scored a goal.
The Jay County boys soccer team was shut out Tuesday by the host Memorial Roughriders, 3-0.
Memorial scored once in the first half and twice in the second, all the while keeping the Jay County offense at bay.
The Patriots fell to 3-5-3 on the season, and travel to Yorktown to take on its sectional rival at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

GAS CITY — The Starfires neither won nor lost for the first time this season.
The South Adams girls soccer team played to a 3-3 draw Tuesday against the host Mississinewa Indians.
Kayla LeFever scored twice to lead the Starfires (6-5). Dellinger also scored once, and Madi Smith notched an assist.
Jenna Myers made 11 saves in goal for the Starfires, who host the Wayne Generals at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
