Alletta Wrightsman

Services for Alletta “Marie” Wrightsman, 90, Hartford City, are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland with Pastor Randy Davis officiating. A former resident of Jay County, she died Monday at Miller’s Merry Manor in Hartford City where she had lived for the past five years.
Born in Fort Wayne to Hattie (Isenhart) and Harvey Thornton Sr., she graduated from Madison Township High School in Jay County in 1945.
She married Charles Robert “Bob” Wrightsman on Dec. 24, 1947, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 2008. They were 4-H leaders in Blackford County with the Jackson Township Lads and Lassies Club for 40 years.
A former Jackson Township Trustee in Blackford County, she had worked as a cook at Jackson Elementary School and as a clerk for the Hartford City BMV. She had also worked for Federal Farm Service Agency in Blackford County and Blackford County Hospital.
She was a 50-year member of Dunkirk’s Bethel United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school, and was a member of the Ladies Aid Circle for 40 years.
Surviving are a son, Bill Wrightsman (companion: Linda), Dunkirk; two daughters, Diana Marie Smith (husband: Dan), Bluffton, and Nancy Chism, Anacortes, Washington; a brother, Harvey Thornton Jr. (wife: Mary Kay), Portland; a sister, Barbara Thornton, Marion; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.
