YORKTOWN — The Patriots came up short again.
Jay County High School’s boys soccer team lost for the third time in four games on Saturday with a 2-0 defeat to the Yorktown Tigers.
The Patriots, who close the regular season with home games Tuesday (5 p.m., South Adams), Thursday (5:30 p.m., Liberty Christian) and Saturday (10 a.m., Oak Hill), dipped to 3-6-3 on the year.
Jay County and sectional rival Yorktown were scoreless after the first half before the host Tigers found the back of the net twice. Meanwhile, the Tigers kept the Patriot offense at bay to earn the shutout.
The Patriot junior varsity team also lost, 3-0.
SA blanks Woodlan
BERNE — South Adam’s girls soccer team finished second in conference play Saturday with a 5-0 win over the Woodlan Warriors.
The Starfires (7-5-1, 2-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) got a hat trick from senior Lexi Dellinger. Madi Smith added a goal and an assist, while Emilee Myers also had a goal.
SAHS goalkeeper Jenna Myers turned away all 15 shots on goal she faced.
Jay County locked up the ACAC title earlier this month, finishing 3-0 in the league.
Tribe 9th falls
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery freshman volleyball team lost to the St. Henry Redskins on Saturday, 25-16, 24-26, 25-22.
Kyra Clark and Kendra Dues had six kills apiece for the Tribe, which also got four kills from Maria Hartings, three from Ashley Bechtol and two apiece from Brenna Homan and Ava Bubp.
Clark and Homan led the way with two aces, and Bubp notched team highs in digs (23) and assists (15). Dues chipped in a solo block.
Patriots sweep
The Jay County middle school seventh and eighth grade football teams both defeated the Delta Eagles on Saturday.
The eighth grade squad won 36-22, and the seventh graders on 28-8.
Caleb Hale had a pair of rushing touchdowns for the eighth graders as he found the end zone from 3 and 65 yards respectively. Blayne Daniels scored on a 35-yard run, Dylan Knapshafer ran for a 47-yard TD, and Tarron Bentz had a 35-yard touchdown run.
Mason Ludy led the seventh grade squad with 105 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Kaden Ridenour and Dawson Hundley had 90 and 70 yards rushing respectively, while each of them had a TD.
