PONETO — The Patriots knocked off the defending champions a week ago.

Now they’re one match away from their second conference title in three years.

The Jay County High School volleyball team swept the host Southern Wells Raiders on Tuesday, 25-20, 25-5, 25-17.

With the win, the Patriots moved to 12-7 on the year and 5-0 in Allen County Athletic Conference play ahead of a Thursday matchup at home with the Heritage Patriots, who are also 5-0 in the ACAC.

Kaelyn Weaver led the Patriot offense with 10 kills, while adding three digs. Sara Hemmelgarn was second on the team with six kills, while sisters Olivia and Alana Kunkler contributed four kills each. Kailee Denney — she led the team with 20 assists — had five of the team’s 17 aces, while Randi Ferguson and Kendal Garringer had four aces apiece. Ferguson tallied a team-high 14 digs.



Junior leads Jay

HARTFORD CITY — Junior Kendra Muhlenkamp had her sixth multi-goal game of the season on Tuesday, leading the Jay County girls soccer team to a 4-0 victory over the host Blackford Bruins.

Muhlenkamp scored three times — her fourth hat trick on the year — as she beat the Blackford goalkeeper twice in the first half and once more after intermission.

She now leads the team with 22 goals.

Alex Bader scored her fourth goal of the season in the opening half.

Lucy Laux, who is second on the squad with 19 goals, tallied her ninth and 10th assists. She leads the team in that category.

Shelby Caldwell had six saves as the goalkeeper.



SA sweeps Woodlan

BERNE — The South Adams volleyball team moved to 15-7 on the season Tuesday with a 25-9, 25-21, 25-11 sweep of the Woodlan Warriors.

Madi Wurster led the Starfires, who are 3-2 in Allen County Athletic Conference play, with 11 kills and eight digs. Addie Wanner totaled 10 kills and her two blocks tied the team lead. 

Jade Farlow contributed seven kills and two blocks. Julia Grabau racked up 32 assists.

The South Adams junior varsity team also won, 25-18, 25-11.

Savannah Alberson’s seven kills led the way for the Starfires. 

Gabriella Bailey and Jade Baker were second on the team with four kills, while Baker totaled a team-high five aces. Josie Grabau had 20 assists.



Tribe eighth

CELINA — Fort Recovery’s girls golf team had its season come to a close on Tuesday as it finished eighth in the Division II sectional tournament at Celina Lynx.

Lima Catholic Central totaled 342 to win the team championship. 

Wayne Trace (346) and St. Henry (362) were second and third respectively to earn the final two district qualifying spots.

The top three teams and top three individuals on non-qualifying teams advance to district.

Fort Recovery totaled 463 to place eighth out of a dozen scoring teams.

Kristen Keller shot 104 to lead the Indians. Eryn Litmer was second on the team with 112, and Becca Wood posted the No. 3 score for the Tribe with her 123. Alli Vaughn shot 124 to complete the team score for the Indians.

Shelby Stammen also competed but did not contribute to the team total. She shot 143.



FR beats ’Skins

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery freshman volleyball team held off the Fort Loramie Redskins in the first set and cruised to a win in the second Tuesday for a 26-24, 25-12 victory at Fort Site Fieldhouse.

Ashlyn Bechtol tallied five kills to lead the Indians, as Maria Hartings and Kyra Clark both had three kills. Hope Wendel and Ava Bubp tallied six and five assists respectively. Kendra Dues recorded 18 digs, while Brenna Homan had 11 digs. Dues also had a pair of aces.
