Blood drive donations hit 100
Taking Note
The American Red Cross held a blood drive on Tuesday at Jay Community Center in Portland and received 100 donations.
Receiving gallon awards were Sue Schrock - 22 gallons, Elizabeth Schoenlein - 4 gallons, Bonnie Geist - 2 gallons, Michael Schmidt - 4 gallons; Rosie Clamme - 13 gallons, Jeremy Roessner - one gallon, and Donna Bruggeman - 2 gallons.
Other donors were Marvin Starr, Ernest Schoenlein, Barbara Fullenkamp, Charles Bentz, Billy Sipe, Kenneth Wellman, Jane Switzer, Joel Roberts, Melinda Metzger, Betsi Skiver, Jill Hemmelgarn, Lori Schoenlein, Demara Dennis, Susan Byers and Marlene Runyon.

Author to visit
Shannon Anderson, a children’s book author and teacher, will speak at 9 a.m. Saturday at Adams Central Community Schools in Monroe.
She will be teaching students to create stronger beginnings and endings in their writing.
Anderson is the author of “Coasting Casey,” “Penelope Perfect,” “Vulture and Hummingbird,” “I Am Not a Pirate,” “Nicken Chuggets,” and “Maggot Man.”
She will be signing her books, which will be available for sale.
Visitors should enter the school through door N5 on the north side of the school.
At Fort library
A program for Bigfoot believers is coming to Fort Recovery Public Library.
Doug Waller, founder of the Southeastern Ohio Society for Bigfoot Investigation, will speak at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the library. The purpose of the organization is to provide a safe, open forum for Bigfoot believers and eyewitnesses.
Pumpkin painting events will be held at the library on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Times are 4:30, 6 and 7 p.m. and the cost is $1. To register, call (419) 375-2869.
