Doris Humphrey

Doris Lillian Humphrey, 84, of Dunkirk, Indiana, passed away at 8:04 p.m., Friday, April 6, 2018, while in the company of family members, at Miller's Merry Manor, in Dunkirk, Indiana.
Doris was born in Cumberland, Kentucky, on Jan. 3, 1934, a daughter of the late Ermine (Anderson) and Earnest Grider.
She was the widow of Carlie E. Humphrey who she happily married on July 3, 1948, and sadly lost on Feb. 25, 1993.
Doris worked as a custodian at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and was a member of the Redkey Baptist Church. She was quick-witted, spunky and an all-around sassy little lady who loved her family dearly. She enjoyed cooking and canning and was known for her “awesome fried chicken.” Doris also enjoyed crocheting and listening to Conway Twitty, George Jones and Elvis.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Triplett of Dunkirk, Indiana, and Patty A. Kuhlman (husband: Dale) of Tyler, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Edith Cox (husband: John) of Muncie, Indiana.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Carlie E. Humphrey; a son, Carl Humphrey Jr.; a daughter, Marjorie Jo LeNoble; brothers Henry Grider, Walter (Chicken) Grider, Bobbie Grider and Evan Grider; sisters Audrey Goolsby and Margaret Moore; and two grandchildren.
Local funeral services will be held at MJS Mortuaries – Dunkirk Chapel in Dunkirk, Indiana, at noon on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, with Br. Everett Bilbrey Jr. officiating.
Friends are invited to call two hours prior to the funeral Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon at MJS Mortuaries – Dunkirk Chapel. Additional services will follow on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Norris – New Funeral Home in Burkesville, Kentucky. Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. with the funeral following at 3 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at Dutch Creek Cemetery in Burkesville, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Association.
