Fort Recovery Middle School named students to the honor roll for the third nine weeks.

Historical events

Events are coming up at the Jay County Historical Society Museum.

The first open house of the year will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. New or renovated displays include model cars collected by the late Ralph May, photos by former Jay County photographers, artwork by Harry Leonard  and his daughter-in-law Vicki Leonard, new toys in the toy display and items from Pennville Elementary and Center Church, which recently closed. The next program meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24. Mike Medler, a Portland native and co-owner of Medler’s Furniture in Portland, will be the guest speaker. He is a retired Indiana State Police officer and former laboratory director of the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Service Agency and will present the program “An Overview of Forensic Science in Criminal Investigation.”  

The Mississinewa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, at the museum. For more information, call Paul Confer at (765) 369-2656.

Alumni banquet

 The Madison Township High School Alumni banquet will be held in May for all students who attended Madison School.

Registration will begin at 4 p.m. and dinner will be at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, at Portland Lions Civic Center, 307 E. 100 North. 

The classes of 1928, ’33, ’38, ’43, ’48, ’53, ’58, ’63 and ‘68 (not Madison graduates) will be honored.

The Jay County Historical Museum in Portland is offering its conference room to hold individual class reunions and view the display of memorabilia from Madison High School. The number is (260) 726-7168 and they ask for a two-week notice.
