FORT RECOVERY — A strong start lifted the Indians to yet another victory.
The Fort Recovery High School baseball team scored seven times in the first inning and plated two or more runs in every frame Monday in a 15-2 victory over the Ansonia Tigers in five innings.
It was the sixth consecutive win for the Indians (7-1).
Fort Recovery, which benefitted from four Ansonia errors, was out front 9-0 before the Tigers were able to put together some offense in the top of the third inning. The Tribe added four runs in the home half of the frame and two more runs in the fourth.
Cade Wendel, Will Homan, Ben Homan and Ethan Schoen each had a pair of hits for the Indians., and Kody Shinabery had a double. Schoen tallied three RBIs.
Ben Homan got the win on the bump, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings. He struck out five and didn’t allow a baserunner.
Indians dip to 3-2
ST. MARYS, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team dipped to 3-2 on the season Monday with a 7-2 loss to the Memorial Roughriders.
After falling behind 3-0 heading into the third inning, Fort Recovery cut the deficit to just one with a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings. But the Roughriders scored four times in the home half of the sixth to get the win.
Brenna Homan had a career-best three hits for the Tribe, as she had a double, two singles and the team’s only RBI. Hannah Knapke also had a double, as Taylor Grisez and Rachel Thien each contributed singles.
Olivia Homan suffered the loss. She allowed seven runs — three earned — on 12 hits while striking out six and walking three.
Jay JV loses
Jay County’s junior varsity baseball team lost its season opener Monday, 12-2, to the Coldwater Cavaliers in five innings.
The Patriots (0-1) and Cavaliers were tied 2-2 after the second inning, but the Cavaliers took the lead with three runs in the third. Coldwater broke the game open with nine runs in the fifth.
Josh Vaughn suffered the loss pitching. He gave up nine runs in 2/3 of an inning of relief of Isaac Moeller, who allowed three runs in four innings.
