Two local athletes competed in the same invitational April 4.
One earned a championship.
Drew LeFever, a 2016 South Adams High School graduate, finished first in the shot put in helping the Taylor University men’s track team to the championship in the invitational it hosted.
Sydney Robbins, a 2016 Jay County graduate, competed for the University of Saint Francis women.
LeFever had a distance of 15.01 meters inshot put, earning his team 10 points. He was then fourth in hammer throw (43.56 meters) for five points, and scored three points as he was sixth in discus (40.78 meters).
The former Starfire accounted for 18 points, helping Taylor score 145 points for first place and give the Trojans a sweep of its home invite.
Robbins was eighth in the javelin throw with her distance of 31.21 meters. She earned one point as the Cougars finished fifth with 67 points.
Taylor totaled 171 points to place first.
Zane Shreve
Jay County – 2014
Finished second in the decathlon representing the Miami University men’s track team Saturday and Sunday in the Muskingum Invitational.
The RedHawk senior totaled 5,571 points as he was runner-up to Ohio Wesleyan’s Nate Newman, who had 6,262.
Shreve was second in the 400-meter dash (54.05 seconds), 1,500run (4 minutes, 55.44 second ), 110 hurdles (16.8 seconds) and long jump (5.85 meters). He was third in 100 dash (12.38 seconds), high jump (1.77 meters), pole vault (4.00 meters), shot put (10.28 meters) and discus (32.05 meters). Shreve was also fifth in javelin (33.15 meters).
Jackson Hobbs

Suffered a loss pitching for the Edison State Community College baseball team on Friday in an 11-1 defeat to Sinclair Community College in the second game of a doubleheader.
He allowed eight earned runs on seven hits in four innings while striking out two and walking two. Sinclair scored once in the first inning and added six more in the fourth before chasing Hobbs from the game in the fifth.
Hobbs threw three innings of relief Wednesday as the Chargers (9-12) defeated Ohio State University Lima, 8-4. He gave up two runs — one earned — on two hits and struck out four.
Collin Affolder
South Adams – 2014
Sparked the Bethel College baseball team Wednesday in a 12-8 win over Goshen College.
The senior was 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs. Affolder hit a two-run single with bases loaded in the top of the eighth to give the Pilots (11-21, 3-13 Crossroads League) the lead for good. On Tuesday, Affolder was 1-for-4 with a single and scored a run in a 6-2 loss to Grace College.
Affolder has a .304 batting average this season, with five doubles, three home runsand 19 RBIs.
Katelin Augsburger
South Adams – 2017
Split a pair of decisions pitching for the University of Saint Francis softball team.
She went the distance, allowing one earned run on three hits over seven innings Tuesday as the Cougars beat Grace College 2-1 in the second game of a doubleheader. Augsburger struck out two and walked a pair.
The following day she lasted 4 1/3 innings, allowed five runs — four earned — on five hits, walked four and struck out four in a 7-6 loss to Bethel College.
Augsburger is now 4-8 on the year for USF (15-16, 8-10 Crossroads League).
Kyra Braun

Won three of her four matches recently for the Trine University women’s tennis team as it split a pair of contests.
Braun won her No. 5 singles match 6-3, 6-3 over Bella Calise on Sunday as the Thunder defeated Albion College 7-2. She then joined Katie Simon to defeat Abby Burris and Kirstin Moore 8-3 in their No. 3 doubles tilt.
On Wednesday, Braun beat Bella Russo of Kalamazoo College 6-1, 6-1. It was the only victory for Trine in an 8-1 loss to Kalamazoo. Braun and Simon dropped their doubles match to Helen Pelak and Russo by an 8-4 margin.

Competed for the Indiana University women’s rowing team Saturday in a Big Ten Double Dual with Michigan and Michigan State.
As a member of the Hoosiers’ Third Varsity 4 crew, she sat in the second seat to join Maddie Hassinger, Kira Ritter, Emma Gillis and coxswain Kelsey Schmit. The Hoosiers had a time of 7 minutes, 54.41 seconds, in the morning session to finish behind Michigan (7:38.8). In the afternoon session, their time of 7:57.05 was second to Michigan State (7:42.8).

Played for the Lipscomb University women’s golf team in the first day of the Jan Weaver Invitational on Friday in Murray, Kentucky.
The Bisons played two 18-hole rounds, and Willis posted rounds of 84 and 85 respectively to land in a tie for 76th overall with teammate Emma Wasson. The Bisons had team totals of 324 and 336 for 660 as they sat in 12th place after the first day.
The second day of the tournament was canceled because of weather.

Got the first hit of his senior campaign Monday for the Huntington University baseball team ina 11-2 victory over University of Saint Francis.
The senior pinch hit for shortstop Adam Roser in the top of the ninth inning and doubled to left field. He then scored from second on a single from third baseman Daniel Lichty. The Foresters moved to 11-13 on the year and 9-1 in Crossroads League play.
Selvey raised his batting average to.167, and scored his seventh run of the season.

Was third on the team for the IU East men’s golf team Friday at the Ohio University-Chillicothe Hilltopper Invitational.
The sophomore was tied for the team lead after nine holes with a score of44, and had 45 on the back nine holes to end with 89. Teammate John Shafer led the Red Wolves with 84, as the team totaled 349 to finish fifth out of 11 teams.
