Ellen J. Barger-Loper

Ellen J. Barger-Loper, 90, Portland, passed away Monday at Miller's Merry Manor in Dunkirk.

She was born in Bromide, Oklahoma, on June 28, 1927, to R.P. and Lilly (Pittman) Ellis. She married Robert E. Barger of Jay County on Nov. 23, 1945, after attending college in Oklahoma. They were married for 38 years, until his death in 1983. On April 19, 1985, she married LeRoy Loper, who died in 2008. 

Ellen was preceded in death by her 14 older siblings and their spouses.

Among her employers were Jay Garment and Marsh Supermarket. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and Jay County Hospital Auxiliary.

Ellen's only child, June Domingo (Roger), of Portland, survives. George Horn, her very special friend, also survives. Her four treasured grandchildren are Jeremy Clear (Jamie), of California, Dr. James Clear (Dr. Jenni), of Hawaii, David Domingo (Lek) of California, and Debbi McMullan (Kerry) of Texas, listed in reverse age order.

She is also is survived by 13 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will begin at noon on Saturday, followed by the 3 p.m. funeral at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Fort Recovery.  Roger Domingo and Pastor Don Zlaty will officiate.
