BERNE — The Starfire girls dominated the Warriors.
Woodlan’s boys returned the favor.
The South Adams High School boys and girls track teams split with the Woodlan Warriors on Wednesday.
South Adams’ girls won 88-33, and the Woodlan boys won, 85-38.
Addie Wanner earned three individual victories for the Starfire girls, claiming the top spot in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles as well as the high jump.
Kallee Patch picked up wins in the 1,600 and 800 runs, while Eliza Harruff was first in the 3,200. Calyssa Lehman got first place in shot put and discus.
On the boys side, Lars In’t Groen was the lone dual winner for South Adams, as he beat the competition in discus and shot put. Victor Vasquez had a win in the 1,600, while Clancy McIntire was victorious in the 3,200.
Stars surge late
ROCKFORD, Ohio — The South Adams baseball team scored all of its runs in two of the final three innings Wednesday in earning an 8-5 win over the host Parkway Panthers.
South Adams (6-1), which dipped to No. 9 in the most recent Class 2A coaches’ poll, fell behind 2-0 before scoring four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Parkway tied the game in the home half of the frame, but the Starfires answered with four more runs in the sixth. The Panthers pushed across a run in the fifth but couldn’t make up the deficit.
Isaiah Baumgartner led the Starfires with a double, a single and three RBIs. Brothers Nic and Joe Stuber both had two singles, while Mark Clary drove in a pair of runs and had two walks.
Adam Besser got the win in relief. He lasted 2 1/3 innings, allowed three runs — two earned — on five hits. He surrendered two walks.
Muselman is medalist
DECATUR — David Muselman earned match medalist honors Wednesday as the South Adams boys golf team placed fourth in a quad match at Cross Creek Golf Club.
Adams Central, which hosted the meet, won with a team total of 190. Woodlan was runner-up with 203, edging Heritage by three strokes. South Adams totaled 217.
Muselman had a career-best 39 to lead the Starfires. Eli Hamrick was second on the team with 52, and Braden Bixler’s 61 was third for SAHS.
Blaine Harruff completed the team score with 64.
Spencer Fear also competed, but his 77 did not factor into the team total.
