FORT RECOVERY — The Indians rallied late in the first game.

They weren’t able to replicate the feat in game two.

Fort Recovery High School’s softball team split a doubleheader Saturday with the Spencerville Bearcats, scoring three runs in the sixth inning to take the first game 6-5 before dropping game two 8-5.

The Indians move to 7-6.

Hannah Knapke and Aleigha Jenkins both finished with three hits, including a pair of doubles. Knapke scored four times, and Lydia Wenning also had a double.

Bailee Tebbe contributed three hits, while Taylor Grisez, Brenna Homan and Jenkins all had two RBIs.

Olivia Homan threw all 14 innings. She struck out six and walked two.



Indians, Raiders split

RUSSIA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team was dominant in game one but struggled in the second game as it split a doubleheader Saturday with the Russia Raiders.

Nick Thwaits powered the Indians (13-4) with a three-run home run in leading FRHS to a 12-2 victory in the first game, but the Tribe only managed one hit in a 4-2 loss in game two.

Thwaits ended the day with two hits, five RBIs and three runs. Cade Wendel and Ben Homan also contributed two singles, while Reese Rogers drove in three runs.



Jay eighth in Muncie

MUNCIE — Jay County’s boys track team was last out of eight teams Saturday in the Muncie Central Relays.

Anderson scored 114.5 points to win, Huntington North was second with 108 points and Delta totaled 83 for third. Jay County had 12 points.

Gavin Randall had a height of 6 feet to place third in high jump. In the 100-meter dash, Nathanael Day was sixth in 12.21 seconds.

The distance medley relay team of Zade Fosnaugh, Matthew Paquette, Alex LeMaster and Tayler Smeltzer combined to finish seventh in 13 minutes, 15 seconds.



Season bests

ST. LOUIS — Hannah Outcalt had four season-high scores Saturday in the final meet of the year.

Outcalt, a Jay County High School freshman, competed in the Senior Xcel Gold division at the NCAA Youth Gymnastics Challenge at America’s Center.

Her best finish was third on uneven bars with a 9.4. She was third on both floor exercise (9.25) and vault (9.1), and her 8.85 on balance beam was seventh.

Outcalt’s all-around score of 36.6 was second.

Her season-high scores were on vault, bars, floor and all-around.



Tennis steamrolls

MONROE — South Adams’ girls tennis team steamrolled its way to a pair of victories Saturday at Adams Central Invitational, beating the North Side Legends and South Side Archers by 5-0 scores.

At No. 1 singles, Haley Gerber picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dolores Juarez of South Side and defeated Grace Henschen of North Side 6-1, 6-1. Julia Grabau had 6-0, 6-0 wins over Sakma Perez (SSHS) and Cing Kim (NSHS) at No. 2 singles, and Hannah Dull beat South Side’s Trinity Johnson 6-0, 6-2 after a 6-0, 6-0 win over North Side’s Connie Koichieva.

The No.1 doubles team of Breanna Potts and Jade Farlow won both of their matches 6-0, 6-0, as did Katrina Fosnaugh and Cassie Yoder at No. 2 doubles. 



SA softball sweeps

AUBURN — The Starfires continue to roll.

South Adams High School’s softball team took two games from the Lakewood Park Christian Panthers Saturday by scores of 5-3 and 18-6 (six innings).

Tori Raugh collected six hits, including a double, to go with her three RBIs and a run. Jade Baker finished with four hits, three runs and two RBIs. Anna Nussbaum contributed a double and two singles, Alyssa Bergman had three hits and three runs while Isabella Ramirez smashed a home run and a double.

Nussbaum pitched the Starfires (9-0) to a win in the first game, while Jade Baker got the victory in game two.



Stars beat Braves

BERNE — The South Adams baseball team scored three runs in the first inning and carried it to an 7-2 victory over county rival Bellmont Braves on Saturday.

South Adams, which moved up to No. 4 in today’s coaches poll, moved to 8-1 on the year.

Nic Stuber led South Adams with two hits and an RBI, and Grant Besser contributed a double. Joe Stuber and Mark Clary also had singles, as Joe Stuber, Collin Shaffer, Isaiah Baumgartner and Clary all drove in runs.
