Members of Stitch and Chatter Quilt Club are busy with preparations for the club’s annual quilt show at Arts Place.
Set for Aug. 23, 24, and 25 to coincide with the annual Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association Show, the event will feature a variety of quilts. Vendors will also have fabrics and handmade items for sale.
The show will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 23 and 24, and from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug 25.
Daily admission is $5 per person.
Arts Place is located at 131 E. Walnut St., Portland.

Dean’s list
Randa Gillespie of Portland, a student in the pharmacy doctoral program at Manchester University, has been named to the spring 2018 Dean’s List there.
A total of 417 students at Manchester University are on the spring list after achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher while enrolled in at least 12 credit hours of classes.
Revisions
The website of the Jay County Historical Society is undergoing a facelift.
Craig Frazee of Dynamic Business Solutions is working on the changes, thanks to a grant from The Portland Foundation.

Graduates
A number of Fort Recovery residents recently graduated from Wright State University.
Austin Brackman earned a bachelor’s degree in general business. Gina Braun received a bachelor’s degree in social work. Karl Eichenauer received a bachelor’s degree in general business. Abigail May received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
Aaron Post and Shane Pottkotter received their bachelor’s degrees in technical and applied studies. Chase Staugler received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Alex Schoen received his associate’s degree in technical study.
Sharing grief
A new GriefShare 13-week program will begin Aug. 13 at Grace United Methodist Church, Hartford City. Afternoon meetings will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and evening meetings will be from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
The meetings will take place in the church library, and will be led by Joan Shrader and Sharon Parker.
GriefShare is described as a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. It is a combination prayer/video series/discussion group. There is a $15 charge for the grief workbook, which is a valuable tool for working through your emotions.

Field trip
The Mississinewa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be traveling Aug. 16 to Grant County for a tour of historical sites there. The group will leave from the historical museum in Portland at 9 a.m. that day.

The Jay County Historical Society will have an open house at its museum from 1 to 4 Aug. 18. The museum is located at the end of East Main Street in Portland.
The historical society’s program meeting is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 28.
Messages, fossils
Chad Pregracke’s Message in a Bottle Collection continues to be on exhibit at Minnetrista in Muncie through Sept. 30.
The exhibit showcases messages found in bottles along U.S. shores and was put together by Pregracke, who is founder and president of Living Lands and Waters.
Pegracke will speak on the role of clean water in our communities Aug. 25 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The event is open to the public at no charge. He was named CNN’s 2013 Hero of the Year for his river clean-up efforts.
Also on display is the exhibit Dinosaur Discoveries: Ancient Fossils, New Ideas.
That exhibit uses technology to examine fossils and learn how dinosaurs walked, ran and moved their long necks. It will be on exhibit through Jan. 6, 2019.
