William Long

William Howard Long, age 93, of rural Portland, resident passed away Wednesday Aug. 8, 2018.
He was born in Jay County on Aug. 10, 1924, the son of William Ray and Verna (Poe) Long. He was married Sept. 1, 1945, to Helen Stoner, who passed away June 5, 2016.
He was a 1942 Madison Township High School graduate, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and member of American Legion Post #211. He was owner and operator of Bill's Big Bar in Portland retiring in 1993.
Surviving are five daughters, Billie Girton (husband: Keith) of Portland, Linda Rhodehamel (husband: Kevin) of Portland, Vickie Long of Indianapolis, Elaine Murray (husband: Mike) of Eaton and Nancy Kreider of Union City, Indiana; one sister, Janice Matchett (husband: Lou) of Royerton; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Hines presiding. Burial with military honors will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from noon to 2 p.m.
