SIDNEY, Ohio — The Indians never trailed, and led by just one at intermission.
The defense made sure the Cavaliers never reached the end zone.
The Fort Recovery High School football team scored 16 points in the second half and only gave up a pair of field goals as it opened the season with a 23-6 victory over the Lehman Catholic Cavaliers.
A Clayton Person touchdown reception from Clay Schmitz on Fort Recovery’s second drive of the game gave the Indians (1-0) the only points they needed.
Michael Denning booted field goals of 27 and 29 yards respectively in the second quarter as the Cavaliers (0-1) pulled within one before halftime.
But a Cobe Wendel 25-yard field goal made it 10-6 FRHS late in the third quarter.
Jacob Acheson scored on a 13-yard run in the fourth, and Schmitz tossed a 28-yard TD pass to Gavin Thobe to complete the scoring.
Schmitz was 12-of-25 for 148 yards with two interceptions. Acheson led all players with 45 rushing yards. Thobe caught five passes for 71 yards.
