FR library will host 'Ark' event
Taking Note
Fort Recovery Public Library has a special event scheduled for next month.
The library will host Clarence Torkelson of Berne at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 to share his involvement in the life-size Noah’s Ark project in Williamstown, Kentucky.
The Ark Encounter attraction shows the scope of the biblical vessel. There are also a variety of displays about Noah’s family, the animals and other topics.
Also on Sept. 11, a crochet club will begin its regular 10 a.m. Tuesday meetings. Those of all skill levels are invited to attend.

The program provides a free review of medications by a healthcare professional. If any problems are found, that individual will help the client and doctors to make sure the correct medications are being taken.
The service is recommended for those who: see multiple doctors or fill prescriptions at multiple pharmacies, take over-the-counter medications, have experienced dizziness or other symptoms, have recently been to the hospital or who take medication blood thinners or diabetes medication.

The League for the Blind and Disabled will offer a visual impairment support group beginning next month at Swiss Village Retirement Community.
Fred Fulkerson of the League for the Blind and Disabled will lead the sessions. Meetings are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sept. 13, Oct. 11, Nov. 8 and Dec. 13.

Helping veterans
VA Northern Indiana Health Care System will hold a series of “stand downs” in order to offer assistance to veterans.
The events are intended as opportunities to reach out to veterans, especially those who are homeless. VA Northern Indiana can provide clothing and meals and connect veterans with other resources.
“Stand downs” are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21 at Delaware County Fairgrounds; 8:40 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marion YMCA, 123 Sutter Way; 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Anderson Salvation Army, 1615 Meridian St.; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fort Wayne’s Franke Park, 3411 Sherman Blvd.

Indiana author Kayleen Reusser will hold a book-signing at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Swiss Village Retirement Community auditorium in Berne.
Reusser, a Bluffton resident, recently completed her third book — “We Gave Our Best: American World War II Veterans Tell Their Stories” — in a series featuring World War II veterans. She has published more than a dozen books in all.
“The books give a personal feel to an important time in world history,” said Reusser. “These historical figures, many of whom we have lived and worked with, helped change history.”
Screenings available
Mercer Health will offer free cancer screenings next month.
Screenings are scheduled for 8 to 11 a.m. Sept. 18 and 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at Community Medical Center in Celina, Ohio. The clinic is open to men ages 55 to 75 who do not have an established urology provider or a personal history of prostate cancer.
