Abby Barcus was routinely one of the best players during her high school tournaments.
She earned her second such collegiate honor on Monday.
Barcus, a 2017 Jay County High School graduate, was named to the West Virginia Invitational all-tournament team as she helped the Wright State volleyball team go 2-1 on the weekend, including a win over a Power 5 team for the first time in more than a decade.
The sophomore shared the team-high of 11 kills with Teddie Sauer, helping the Raiders (2-1) beat host West Virginia 25-20, 27-25, 19-25, 5-21. Barcus added 13 digs, two acesand an assist, and helped on a block. She was also the server for the match-clinching point.
Barcus notched a team-high 14 kills with 13 digs in a five-set loss to UConn to open the tournament on Friday. She added five kills, five digs and a block in a win over Georgia Southern.
Ava Kunkler
Jay County – 2016
Played a key role in helping the University of Saint Francis women’s volleyball team stun NAIA No. 4 Viterbo University in four sets Saturday.
It was the first loss at home since 2012 for Viterbo, which had won 66 straight matches on its home court.
Kunkler was second on the team with eight kills to go with her four blocks, three digs and one ace as the Cougars (6-2) went 3-1 in the Viterbo Invitational.
The junior set a new career high by recording 13 kills in a five-set loss to Morningside (Iowa) to begin the Viterbo Invitational on Friday.
During the season-opening Mariner Invitational Aug. 17 and 18, she totaled 18 kills and four blocks while making two starts.
Cassidy Rammel
Fort Recovery – 2015
Also played for the University of Saint Francis volleyball team in its two invitationals to begin the season.
The senior is second on the team with 61 kills, including a season-high 12 in a 3-0 win over Valley City State in the Viterbo Invitational on Friday. She also has recorded 53 digs, helped on 14 blocks and totaled 11 aces.
Kendra Siefring
Fort Recovery – 2016
Also posted a career-high mark for kills for the University of Saint Francis volleyball team on Friday in a loss to Morningside.
The junior finished with 11 kills in the loss while also assisting on three blocks, notching one solo block and getting two digs.
Siefring totaled eight kills to lead the Cougars past Life University on Aug. 17 and WVU Tech a day later.
Her 52 kills on the seasonranks third on the squad.
Kiah Wendel
Fort Recovery – 2018
Led all players in digs for three straight matches as she made her collegiate debut for the Owens Community College volleyball team during the Waubonsee Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
After recording five digs as the Express (3-1) opened the season with a 3-1 loss to Iowa Central Community College on Friday, she responded with a match-high 18 digs and a pair of aces in a 3-0 sweep of North Iowa Area Community College later that same day.
The freshman repeated the performance with 18 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Rock Valley College on Saturday before sharing the match high of 10 digs in a 3-0 win over Madison College.
Gabbie Mann
Jay County – 2016
Came back from injury to log minutes for the Fort Wayne women’s soccer team.
The junior, who had her first two seasons cut short because of leg injuries, came off the bench to play 34 minutes ina both a 2-1 loss Aug. 17 to Ball State and a 0-0 draw two days later with Indiana State.
She notched her first shot of the season in a 2-1 defeat to Western Michigan on Aug. 23, and returned to the starting lineup on Sunday, a 2-1 triumph over Valparaiso.
Collin Haines
Jay County – 2018
Debuted for the Indiana University – South Bend men’s golf team in the Crosstown Clash on Friday and Saturday at Swan Lake Resort.
The freshman shot an 81 for eighth place after the first day, and improved one stroke on Saturday but fell back to finish tied for 13th with a 17-over-par 161.
IU South Bend finished third as a team with 623, trailing Holy Cross College (593) and Bethel College (619).
Haines was fourth for the Titans.
Kaelyn Weaver
Jay County – 2018
Started the first game of her college career for the Saint Xavier University volleyball team Aug. 21 at Clarke.
She played two sets in the 3-0 loss, totaling two kills and a dig.
The freshman also had three kills and an assist Saturday in a 3-1 win against Marian Weaver then followed up that performance with a career-high four kills in a 3-0 loss to Davenport.
Madi Wurster
South Adams – 2018
Made her collegiate debut for the Fort Wayne volleyball team Tuesday in a 3-0 at IUPUI.
Wurster, a freshman, had one kill on 11 total attacks. She also had two digs and a solo block for the Mastodons (1-3).
Chloe Trissel
Jay County – 2018
Debuted for the IU Kokomo volleyball team Saturday in a 3-0 victory over Governors State during the Grace College Tournament.
The freshman played one set but did not record any statistics.
