ROCKFORD, Ohio — The Indians had won all five of their non-conference games to start the season.
They opened conference play with a win, too.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team made easy work of the host Parkway Panthers on Tuesday, winning 25-9, 25-14, 25-19 in the Midwest Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Cassy Martin had a team-high 14 kills and five blocks for the Tribe (6-0, 1-0 MAC). Paige Jutte followed with 10 kills, and Paige Fortkamp contributed five kills.
Madi Rammel tallied 39 assists and Hannah Knapke finished with 13 digs.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 25-19, 27-25.
Whitley Rammel led the way with nine kills, and Marissa Gaerke finished with six kills. Hope Wendel had 16 assists.
Fort golfers win
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys and girls golf teams both defeated the Marion Local Flyers on Thursday at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
The Tribe girls won 221-261, while the boys got a 198-204 victory.
Jalyn Bruns, a freshman, finished with a round of 50, one stroke off her career-best to earn match medalist honors. Devin Jutte was second on the team at 55, and Shelby Stammen was one stroke behind her. Alli Vaughn shot 60 to complete the team score.
Reagan Grieshop and Kendra Dues also competed and shot 61 and 65 respectively, but their scores did not factor into the team total.
Carson Rammel shot a career-best 46 to earn match medalist honors, and Derek Locthefeld was one stroke behind. Grant Knapke was third on the team with 50 and Blayne Tobe shot 55.
Zander Kunkler also competed and he finished with 65.
Stars sweep Knights
BERNE — The South Adams volleyball team moved to 9-5 on the year by beating the Norwell Knights on Thursday, 25-14, 25-12, 25-16.
Shaelynn Bowman led the squad with nine kills. Lydia Loshe tallied five kills while Bella Bailey and Carlie Sealscott had four kills each. Josie Grabau contributed 16 assists, and Hannah Dull tallied 12 digs.
The Starfires’ junior varsity team also won, 25-23, 25-24. Poppi Lenwell and Jade Baker both had five kills. Vivian O’Dell and Lenwell recorded six aces.
South Adams’ C team lost, 25-19, 25-22. Cami Berry notched three kills.
SA wins two
GENEVA — South Adams’ girls golf team got two Allen County Athletic Conference victories Thursday in a three-team match with Woodlan and Southern Wells.
The Starfires (6-3, 4-1 ACAC) shot 211 to beat Southern Wells (216) and Woodlan (263).
Shayla Welch was the top Starfire golfer as she scored 50. Millie Gaskill and Katie Stiltner had matching scores of 53, and Maggie Evans carded 55 to complete the team score.
Hannah Hinshaw also competed, but her 72 did not factor into the team score.
Girls soccer rebounds
BERNE — The South Adams girls soccer team rebounded from a loss Tuesday to shut out Muncie Central on Thursday, 4-0.
Ali Smith had two goals and an assist for the Starfires (3-3). Madi Smith tacked on a goal and an assist, and Josie Hall also had a goal.
The Starfires host Norwell at 10 a.m. Saturday.
FRMS gets win
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both beat Union City’s West Side on Thursday.
The eighth graders dominated, winning both sets 25-4. The seventh graders won 25-5, 25-10.
Mara Pearson had two kills and Teigen Fortkamp had a pair of assists for the seventh graders.
Taylor Will tallied 15 aces for the eighth graders. Danielle Braun tallied five kills.
