Open Doors Ohio event is set for FR

Taking Note

Fort Recovery State Museum and Fort Recovery Retail Merchants will host Open Doors Ohio for a special event from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 8.

Open Doors focuses on drawing attention to historic structures across the state. Locations featured during the Fort Recovery event will be the state museum, which will be celebrating its 80th birthday, the former opera house that was in operation in the late 1800s and early 1900s, local murals and other village merchants.

Participants in the free event can start at the museum, which will have maps guiding them to all of the sites that are participating.

To sign

Indiana author Kayleen Reusser will hold a book-signing at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Swiss Village Retirement Community auditorium in Berne.

Reusser, a Bluffton resident, recently completed her third book — “We Gave Our Best: American World War II Veterans Tell Their Stories” — in a series featuring World War II veterans. She has published more than a dozen books in all.

“The books give a personal feel to an important time in world history,” said Reusser. “These historical figures, many of whom we have lived and worked with, helped change history.”

Screenings set

A mobile mammogram organization will offer screenings for breast cancer next month.

On Sept. 13, Francine’s Friends Mobile Mammography will be at South Adams Senior Center, 825 Hendricks St., Berne. Clients are asked to bring a photo ID and an insurance card; funding is available for those without insurance.

To schedule an appointment, call (260) 483-1847 or (800) 727-8439.
