Winterfest winners
Jay County Chamber of Commerce has announced the winning floats from its Parade of Lights.
UpperKut Salon & Spa was selected as the overall winner.
Winning floats in each category were:
Business/industry — IU Health Jay
Faith-based — Trinity United Methodist Church
Not-for-profit — Jay County Civic Theatre
Youth — Jay County High School
Theft
A Redkey woman was arrested Friday evening after allegedly attempting to steal from Walmart.
Paige M. Barker, 19, 3 N. Meridian St., was arrested on the preliminary charge of theft by borrowing, a Class A misdemeanor. According to a Portland Police Department report, Barker allegedly attempted to take $63 worth of merchandise from the store at 950 W. Votaw St., Portland.
She was booked at 7:42 p.m. into Jay County Jail and was released on a $1,000 bond.
Deer struck
A Fort Recovery woman hit a deer with her car Sunday morning.
Virginia L. Pugh, 52, was driving west on Division Road near its intersection with county road 600 East when a deer ran out into the road. She was unable to avoid hitting it with her 2004 Honda Pilot, causing damage estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
The collision occurred at 5:42 a.m.
Drove off road
A California man crashed the semi truck he was driving Saturday afternoon.
Nishan Singh, 31, Perris, California, was driving south on State Line Road near its intersection with county road 600 South when the 2015 Freightliner Cascadia semi truck he was driving went off the west side of the road and into the ditch. The semi continued in the ditch before coming back onto the road and entering the ditch on the east side of the road. It hit a Darke REC utility pole guy-wire before coming to a stop. Also damaged was a Jay County culvert.
The Freightliner is registered to Sandhu Bro Transport, Temple City, California.
Damage in the 1 p.m. accident is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
OWI crash
A Bryant man was arrested for drunk driving after crashing a car early Saturday morning.
Joshua S. Lykins, 23, 6941 N. 100 West, was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Golf east on Indiana 18 near its intersection with county road 100 West. As he entered the curve in the roadway, the car went off south side of the road and rolled, coming to rest on its top. He complained of head pain and a cut on his back, and was medically cleared by IU Health Jay Hospital.
Lykins was arrested on the preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor. He was booked at 7:03 a.m. into Jay County Jail and is being held on a $1,000 bond.
The Volkswagen he was driving is registered to Scott E. Lykins, Bryant.
Damage in the 3:20 a.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
