VAN WERT, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls swim team defeated both Van Wert and Marion Local on Thursday at Van Wert YMCA.

It beat host Van Wert 50-46 and knocked off Marion Local 46-45.

The FRHS boys lost to Van Wert (52-27) and Marion Local (43-36).

Cassy Martin, Ava Bubp and Shelby Stammen all had two individual victories. Martin won the 50-meter freestyle and 100 backstroke, Bubp was first in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly while Stammen beat the field in the 400 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Autumn Burk also got a win in the 200 individual medley.

Burk, Martin and Stammen teamed with Melissa Laux to win the 200 medley relay, and then joined Burk for a win in the 200 freestyle relay.

The boys 200 freestyle relay of Nolan Thobe, Michael Braun, Josh Gonzalez and Owen Sheridan combined to win the 200 freestyle relay. 

Josh Gonzalez won the 100 backstroke.



Stars split with HN

BERNE — The South Adams boys and girls swim teams split with the Huntington North Vikings on Thursday.

The boys knocked off the Vikings 97-51, while the girls fell 94-69.

Kam Yoder had two individual wins, taking the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 butterfly, while Parker Collingsworth and Curtis Sprunger won the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke respectively.

Ethan Duff, Isaac Gorrell, Sprunger and Yoder teamed to win the 200 medley relay, while Aidan Von Gunten, Gorrell, Duff and Yoder won the 200 freestyle relay.

Isabella Bailey and Ashley LeFever were double winners for the SAHS girls. Bailey had victories in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke as LeFever won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Isabel Von Gunten also had a win in the 50 freestyle.

Hannah Neuenschwander, LeFever, Bailey and Von Gunten combined to take first in the 200 medley relay.



Fort falls to Tigers

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians had a lead after one quarter of play but fell behind and never regained the lead.

The Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team dropped its Midwest Athletic Conference opener on Thursday with a 38-30 loss to the Versailles Tigers at Fort Site Fieldhouse.

The Indians (1-2, 0-1 MAC) led 13-11 after the first quarter but a 13-6 edge in the second gave the Tigers a 24-19 advantage at halftime. Versailles (5-0, 2-0 MAC), which is defending conference champion, increased the margin by one in the third quarter and kept Fort Recovery at bay in the fourth.

Olivia Patch and Alli Vaughn each had eight points to lead the Tribe, which also got six points from Val Muhlenkamp and four each from Kierra Wendel and Brenna Homan.
 
Homan’s four rebounds led the team and Patch grabbed three boards.



 
SA rallies past Jets
 
MONROE — The South Adams girls basketball team came from behind in the second half to beat host Adams Central on Thursday, 40-35.
 
The Starfires (4-5, 1-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) were tied with the Jets (6-2, 2-1 ACAC) at 10 apiece after the first quarter but went into halftime trailing 20-17.
 
South Adams had a 9-5 margin in the third to take the lead and kept Adams Central at bay down the stretch.
 
Emilee Myers led all players with 17 points, and Lydia Loshe scored 12 points to join her in double figures. Shaelynn Bowman contributed five points while Kristen Wynn and Madi Smith had three points each.
 
South Adams’ junior varsity team lost to Adams Central, 37-27.
 
Macie Hirschy’s 10 points led the Starfires, who also got eight points from Ali Smith, five from Carlie Sealscott and four points from Makayla Hamrick.



 
Schwieterman shines
 
BLUFFTON — Renna Schwieterman had a career night in leading the East Jay Middle School eighth girls basketball team past the Bluffton Tigers on Thursday, 36-13.
 
The seventh grade Chiefs also won, 33-11.
 
Schwieterman poured in 29 points for the EJMS eighth graders, who moved to 7-1 on the season. Lydia Keihn contributed five points while Kylee Carreno added two points.
 
Sophie Saxman led the seventh grade Chiefs with 10 points, and Cash Hollowell followed with eight points.
 
Bralee Vanskyock and Breanna Dirksen totaled six and five points in support, while Hannah Laux chipped in four points.



 
Chiefs sweep Tigers
 
East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams topped the Bluffton Tigers on Thursday. The seventh graders won 26-15, while the eighth graders earned a 38-33 victory.
 
Sam Myers and Zach McAbee had nine and seven points respectively to lead the EJMS seventh graders (4-3, 2-1 Allen County Athletic Conference).
 
Wesley Bihn followed with two points as Abraham Dirksen and Brayden Collins scored two points each.
 
Bennett Weitzel led the eighth graders (6-1, 3-0 ACAC) with a dozen points, as Josh Dowlen scored seven points. Carter Link finished with six points,
 
Dusty Pearson had five points while Owen Ransom and Dawson Hundley tallied four points each.



 
Eagles fall
 
MUNCIE  — The seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams at West Jay both dropped games to the Northside Titans on Thursday.
 
The seventh grade team dipped to 6-1 on the year with a 38-23 setback while the eighth graders lost 50-13.
 
Liam Garringer had a pair of 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 12 points for the seventh graders. Ryan Cross was second on the team with four points and Jackson Edwards tallied three points. Parker Nichols and Corey Lenington both had two points.
 
Skyler Bee led the eighth grade Chiefs with five points. Dominic Newsome and Gabe Goodspeed both scored three points and Peyton James finished with two points.
