George H.W. Bush was a point of light
To the editor:
On Dec. 5, the memorial service for George H.W. Bush was aired on practically every major TV station.
Ordinarily, I try to avoid such programs like they were the plague.
Not this one.
George Herbert Walker Bush was one of this ol’ Dem’s favorite presidents. It’s truly a shame the Republican Party has lost two of its best representatives of the span of just a few short months.
I laughed heartily at the anecdotes revealed by all the various speakers about his sense of humor. I cried unashamedly with George W. did in his epilogue.
I watched closely the reaction of all the assembled dignitaries as they no doubt contemplated their own final day. Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and their wives, each couple praying, singing, all reacting to the service in their own respectable way.
All but one. On the extreme left was a yellow-headed guy with a glowering countenance who looked for all the world like he was trying to suppress a yawn and wishing he was on a golf course somewhere. I am truly surprised he punishes himself by playing so much golf. The constant pain he must endure. Bone spur, ya know.
With the likes of him around, it makes one appreciate an accomplished politician.
Of the thousand points of light he talked about, he was by far the brightest.
May he rest in peace. George H.W. Bush, that is.
