Harold Loy

Harold E. Loy, 87, of Arcola, Illinois, passed away at 6:18 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, at Carriage Crossing in Arcola, Illinois.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola with a Rosary at 6:45 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10  a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola.  Father Angel Siera will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Arcola Cemetery.

Harold was born on Feb. 5, 1931, in Portland, Indiana. He was a son of Walter D. and Florentine (Miller) Loy Sr. He married JoAnne Giblin on July 28, 2007, in Arcola, Illinois.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnne Loy of Arcola, Illionis; three sons, Stephen Loy of Huntington, Indiana, Mark Loy of Tampa, Florida, and Robert Loy of Tampa, Florida; two daughters, Debbie Gutwein of Lafayette, Indiana, and Kandice Norrell and her husband Tim of North Port, Florida; grandchildren, Adam Gutwein of Hudson, Florida, Ashley Green and her husband Matthew of Lafayette, Indiana, Ian Loy of Tampa, Florida, and Ethan Loy of Huntington, Indiana; two great-grandchildren, Adeline and Everett Green; one step-daughter, Vanessa Swanson and her husband Gregory of Debary, Florida; and one brother-in-law, Arthur Garringer of Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Walter D. Loy Jr.; three sister, Evelyn Loy, Esther Whitacre and Edna Garringer; and two step-sons, Donald Kiser and Larry Kiser.

Harold was a Marine Veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Harold was chief deputy in Jay County, Indiana, from 1963 to 1971. In 1971 he became the sheriff of Jay County, Indiana, until 1975. When Harold moved to Arcola, in 1976, he became the plant superintendent at the Thomas Monahan Company until he retired in 1992. After retirement, Harold started a lawn care business mowing and maintaining over 18 yards around Arcola.

Harold was always proud to have served in the Marines and he would always help a friend who was in need.
