FCC (Adams) this week announced plans to expand its Berne plant, adding up to 51 new jobs by 2021.
The company currently employs 675 in Berne and has been in operations there since 2003. Its sister operation, FCC (Indiana), employs 790 in Portland, coming to Jay County in 1987 as Jaytec.
FCC (Adams) will invest more than $24 million to expand its 436,700-square-foot facility, constructing and equipping an 88,000-square-foot addition, the company said in a press release. The expanded space will house a new aluminum die cast machine process, six CNC lathe processes and four CNC drill processes. Construction is expected to begin in February 2019.
“FCC (Adams) is a significant part of Indiana’s leading automotive industry, which is producing safe and reliable products used every day across the world,” Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger said in a prepared statement.
Company president Shinsuke Kambara said the expansion is in response to growing customer demands.
The two plants are subsidiaries of Japanese parent company, FCC Co. Ltd., which operates 22 plants in 10 countries, including three facilities located in the United States.
Its customer base includes Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Ford, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Harley-Davidson and BMW.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered the company up to $400,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. The city of Berne and Northeast Indiana Works will consider additional incentives and training services.
