Visit and support local arts scene
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Recently, a few of my Indiana University colleagues visited Portland.
I drove them around town to show them some of our amenities. We drove by Portland Water Park, Hudson Family Park, Jay County Library, Jay County High School, John Jay Center for Learning, Jay County Courthouse and Arts Place. My friends were impressed with what Jay County had to offer.
It is easy to take for granted these wonderful features of our small community that greatly add to our quality of life.
Arts Place is in the midst of a capital campaign to expand its facility; to improve on its services. Nurturing the creative spirit in anyone. How great is that?
If you have never been in the building, 131 E. Walnut St. Portland, go. A staff member would love to show you around.
Check out the latest exhibit. Sign up for a class. Go online and look at the website artsland.org. There are scholarships available for music lessons: Apply.
Attend a civic theatre or artist series performance. See for yourself how amazing this facility really is.
Finally, if you believe in nurturing the creative spirit in anyone; make a donation for the campaign. There are many giving opportunities available. You can adorn Autumn’s walkway for $2,500, sponsor a seat for $1,000, donate a destination on a directional sign for $500 or give a brick for $250. These are great naming opportunities and make wonderful Christmas presents.
Any gift to Arts Place is appreciated and together we can make a difference.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Hudson
