FORT RECOVERY — The Indians couldn’t quite shake the Starfires in the first quarter.
They had no problem in the second.
Fort Recovery High School’s boys basketball team used a solid second quarter to beat the South Adams Starfires 70-36 on Tuesday at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
The Indians (3-2) led the Starfires (1-6) 24-16 in the first quarter before putting the game well out of reach in the second. Fort Recovery scored 20 points while holding South Adams to just two for a 44-18 lead at the break.
The offensive pressure continued after intermission as the Indians led 61-26 with one quarter to play.
Grant Knapke and Payton Jutte scored 18 points apiece to lead the Indians, and Clay Schmitz joined them in double figures with 10 points. Jutte also snagged 10 rebounds.
Aidan Wanner’s 10 points were tops for the Starfires, and Brayden Gilbert contributed nine points. Nick Miller finished with eight points.

FOUNTAIN CITY — A dominating effort and nearly a half dozen forfeits helped the South Adams wrestling team top the Northeastern Knights on Tuesday, 48-21.
Austin McKibben, Drake Deitsch, Jacob Plattner and Caleb Augsburger each pinned their respective opponents.
Kaden Davidson, Conner Young, AJ Dull, Kenneth Richardson and Tommy Herman all received forfeits.
Spenser Clark and Andre Hughes lost by 7-2 and 6-2 decisions respectively. Keegan Rich was pinned in his match.
Chief 8th edges Eagles
The East Jay Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team edged the Delta Eagles on Tuesday, 39-37.
East Jay’s seventh graders also won, 30-16.
Renna Schwieterman totaled 20 points for the eighth graders (10-1), and Lydia Keihn contributed 10 points in the win. Kylie Carreno and Eden Abshire tallied seven and two points respectively.
Molly Muhlenkamp’s eight points led the EJMS seventh graders (9-1). Bralee VanSkyock tallied seven points, while Hannah Laux and Cash Hollowell had six points apiece. Sophie Saxman added three points.
